I left a trail of tears behind, and my uncle was
heartbroken for me.
He flipped the table over!
“When my brother–in–law was alive, he cared

Tor me and Lu Ann so much, and now that ne s
gone, you’re bullying the two of us!”
Mark jumped up and pointed at my uncle.
“You’re full of crap! You wasted all the money my dad made. You didn’t give us a dime to pay for his cancer treatment, so he had no money to fight it. He only died because of you, how can you say he cared about you?!”
My uncle stood tall. “It’s because he cared about me that he let me spend it!”
He puffed up his chest. “And I know for a fact,
my brother–in–law wanted to give me part of this house, and you guys stole it!”
So, using magic to fight magic, using a jerk to
deal with jerks was the best option.
My brother was freaking out. “Old man, are you
just here to steal the house?”
<

He lunged and punched my uncle!
My uncle had brought a whole posse, they all jumped in.
The house turned into a total war zone!
Because my uncle had made his stance clear,
they didn’t touch me.

Everyone else got beat up, my mom and the old
man, too.
I watched the chaos from the kitchen door,
secretly hoping that they would all kill each
other.
But that didn’t happen.
The neighbors heard the ruckus and called the
cops.
Everyone was taken to the police station.

My uncle pointed at Mark. “That little jerk
started it.‘
دو
Mark said, “That old man broke into my house
with a gang to steal it! He was trespassing.
What was I supposed to do, not defend
myself?”
My uncle said, “What are you babbling about! I never said I was here to steal a house, I was here to get justice for my niece!”
My mom, my brother, and Tiffany were dumbstruck. “What kind of justice are you
talking about?”
My uncle suddenly started crying and said to the cops, “My brother–in–law is gone, and Lu
Ann is so heartbroken, she wanted to buy this
house. But she didn’t have all the money at
once, so she made a deal with them that they
would take payments as she could, but now she
gave them everything and they won’t transfer

gave them everything, and they won’t transfer
the house to her!”
I was applauding inside.
Uncle, that was amazing!
My mom’s jaw dropped. “What? What are you talking about? I never agreed to sell the house
to Lu Ann!”
The police looked at me.
I looked down, my voice cracking. “Officer, it’s embarrassing to be dealing with family stuff like this at the police station, but it’s true, what my uncle said. I paid for the house, but my mom
and brother won’t transfer it to my name.”
My uncle’s face went red. “That’s right! I heard
my sister agree to sell it to Lu Ann with my own
ears.”

After I told my uncle about my dad wanting to
give him part of the house, he couldn’t let it go.
Because he wasn’t a direct relative, and there
was no will, he couldn’t get it.
So, I’d worked with him and we had come up
with a plan.
He would be my witness, saying that my mom
had agreed to sell me the house.
I promised him that when I got the house, I’d
give him $10,000.
He agreed without hesitation.
And just to be safe, he contacted some old
neighbors, and they agreed to say that they
heard my mom agree to sell me the house.
My brother was hopping mad.

“You’re lying! You two were in on this. Where’s
the money? Lu Ann never gave us money for
the house!”
I held up my phone.
“I did.”
Technology is really great.
All my transfers to them were stored in my
phone.
“Officer, aside from the money I sent directly to
my mom and brother, I also paid some money through my nephew’s school fees.”
Thanks to Tiffany, I had been saving up money
for myself.
Tiffany was losing it. “She’s lying, that was just
something she did for my son, since she’s his
auntl”

I shook my head. “I paid Kevin’s fees? I was
trying to pay for the house, my own daughter
couldn’t even take a single class, where would I
get extra money to spend on Kevin?”
My mom panicked. “Lu Ann, you should have a
conscience! You’re twisting the facts, those
were gifts that you gave us, they have nothing
to do with the house!”
I acted heartbroken. “Mom, you’re the one
twisting the facts! Mike and I were married for
seven years, we didn’t save a single penny, it all
went into payments on the house! Who would
eat scraps just to help their family?”
I was crying so hard I could hardly breathe.
“Mom, please, give me back the house! I have
this loan from the bank, and I’m being sued. I’m
out of options! If you make me keep fighting for
it, I’m just going to take Lily and end it all!”

I was so pathetic.
The police were all shaking their heads.
After taking care of the fight, the police
couldn’t do much about the house since my
mom and brother denied everything. They
moved it over to the courts.
86
With the evidence on my phone and my uncle’s
testimony, the court quickly made a ruling.
On the day of the house transfer, my brother
collapsed at the title office.
At the hospital, they found out he had a
creatinine of 1200 – kidney failure.
The doctor said that there were two ways to go.
First, a kidney transplant.
Second, long–term dialysis.
<
2:58
A transplant was expensive, but if they could
find a family match, it would only cost a few thousand dollars.
Dialysis was about $2000 per month, three
times a week for four hours each time.
That meant my brother would lose his job.
So, my mom set her sights on me.
Like last time, she wanted me to get tested so I could give my brother a kidney if I was a match.
I refused point–blank.
“Mom, I have a heart condition. I can’t have surgery to donate my kidney.”
My mom was spitting mad. “The kidney is far
from your heart. You have a brother, are you
going to let him die? If he dies, what happens
to Kevin, he is the only male in the family!”

I remembered how Tiffany had cried on my old
man’s shoulder when she had found out about
my brother’s diagnosis.
“Mom, Kevin has Tiffany, right? She can find someone to support her if he dies, don’t worry. Kevin might change his last name, but he’ll still be related to our family!”
My mom was furious, she tried to hit me. “You
witch!”
I grabbed her hand. “Save your energy for your
son!”
I turned and went home.
This time, they weren’t taking anything from
- me.
Not even a hair!

Just as I got home, my uncle called. “Lu Ann, you have the house now, right? So, when am I going to get that $10,000 you promised? My cousin needs money for a wedding. It’s urgent.”
I started biting my nails. “What ten thousand dollars?”
My uncle was silent for a few seconds. “Didn’t you say you’d give me ten thousand for helping
you get the house?”
“That never happened, Uncle. You must have dreamed it. You already took a bunch of money from my dad, why do you want more? Don’t be
so greedy, you might get yourself into trouble!”
My uncle realized I’d tricked him.
He was screaming into the phone. “Lu Ann, you
screwed me! I swear, I’m gonna go to court and
tell them the truth!”
