It all started when Joe got into a fight on his
third day of high school. The other kid beat him
<
And who was the other kid? None other than
Chris, my real brother.
That’s what the housekeeper told me.
She said that Chris’s mother had come to our
place and was begging for forgiveness, and had
beat her son pretty badly to get our parents‘
sympathy. But our parents refused to come out
and see them.
She asked, “Do you think I should talk to the
kid’s mother?”
I thought I must’ve heard her wrong, “You said
that the other kid’s name was what?”
“It’s Chris. I heard his dad was a murderer on
the run. Like father like son, I guess.”
This time I knew for sure, it was my real
brother.
Back then, when Phil wanted to switch my
brother, he had just murdered someone and
knew that if he was caught, his newborn son
would be left behind.
I had no idea he was still on the loose.
I also didn’t expect Rhonda to go completely off
the rails and bring my brother to our doorstep.
He looked exactly like my dad, so if my parents
got a good look at him, they’d realize that their
kid had been switched at birth.
Did Rhonda’s conscience get the better of her?
Did she want to switch them back?
No way, if Rhonda had a conscience, she
wouldn’t beat my brother half to death for
getting into a fight.
I needed to know what Rhonda was up to. So I decided to go down there and talk to her.

getting into a fight.
I needed to know what Rhonda was up to. So I decided to go down there and talk to her.
I wanted to see my brother and send him away
without my parents getting involved.
But I walked out and my parents were right
behind me.
The second my dad saw me, he said, “Glad you
are here! Let’s go see the little dirtbag who
dared to hurt your brother!”
“He better be careful,” my mom chimed in, “we
are not gonna let this one go easily.”
So my parents were gonna see their real son
today, whether they liked it or not.
