Chapter 8 Putting Him on the Spot
Jennifer’s eyes gleamed with a hint of sarcasm, and the room fell into an uneasy silence.
Jesse blinked, clearly caught off guard. “Wait, you wrote that song? I thought it was Daniel’s sister who wrote it?”
Jennifer responded nonchalantly, “Yes, that’s right. I’m Daniel’s sister, Jennifer.”
Jesse glanced at Sarah, visibly puzzled. “Then who is she? I thought the Hargreaves family only had one daughter.”
“She’s the daughter of our family’s maid, Sarah. My brothers treat her like family though.”
Sarah’s face flushed a deep red.
She hated being reminded of her true background, especially when she had been pretending to be part of the Hargreaves family.
Before things could escalate further, Daniel stepped in.
“Enough, Jennifer. Sarah’s mother saved your life. Don’t forget that.”
“I haven’t forgotten, but you want to credit Sarah with the song when it’s clear she didn’t write it. Isn’t that a lie? What happens if the truth comes out? How will Sarah handle that?”

Daniel’s face darkened. “Shut up, Jennifer!”
He hadn’t expected her to drop this bombshell in front of
everyone.
Sarah, struggling to keep her composure, spoke up softly. “Jennifer, you’ve misunderstood. I was planning to explain. things to Mr. Martin privately. I never intended to steal the song.”
“Sarah, there’s no need to explain yourself to her.”
Daniel then addressed the room. “Sorry, everyone. My sister’s been a bit upset lately. Please forgive her. Jennifer, why don’t you go get some food while we talk?”
Jennifer knew exactly he was trying to get rid of her.

Her voice rose slightly, challenging him. “You don’t need to apologize for me, Daniel. You should be telling Mr. Martin about Sarah’s work. The song you released recently? It was written by her, wasn’t it?”
Daniel stiffened.
His latest single had been a complete flop, attracting a storm of criticism from fans.
That was why he was so desperate to meet Jesse, hoping he could help him salvage his image.

Jesse, sensing the awkwardness, turned to Jennifer. “I thought Mr. Daniel Hargreaves‘ debut single was well received. Didn’t he let you write this one?”
“Daniel said Sarah would be writing all the new hits. She’s very talented. I fully support it. After all, with our family’s resources, she’s bound to go far. Right, Daniel?”
Daniel’s jaw tightened. He had never said that Sarah would write all the future hits.
He had only let Sarah try once, but there was no way he was going to stake his career on it.
Sarah, sensing the tension, quickly tried to smooth things over. “Jennifer, I know I can’t compare to you in talent. Daniel has already done so much for me. I really don’t have the right to keep writing his singles.”

Jennifer’s smile remained, but her words were pointed. “Sarah, don’t understand my family. Daniel would never stop using. your songs just because one didn’t work out. Wouldn’t you, Daniel?”
She smiled sweetly, knowing she was putting him on the spot.
For years, she’d been trapped by their moral high ground.
But now that she was fighting back, they couldn’t handle it.

Daniel, cornered, could only mutter, “You’re right. Even though Sarah’s song, didn’t turn out well, her future is still bright.”
Jennifer clapped her hands slowly. “Sec, Sarah? Even Daniel agrees. Why don’t you thank him for his support?”
Sarah’s face froze in a tight smile.
It was clear that Daniel was not happy, and she had walked right into Jennifer’s trap.
Sarah managed to say, “Jennifer, I’m really thankful that your family took me in, so I can’t ask for too much. And thanks for saying all that for me.”
Daniel, visibly relieved that Sarah hadn’t agreed publicly, let out a breath.
With an air of calm indifference, Jennifer turned to Jesse. “Sir, I’m Jennifer Hargreaves, the original composer of Wind.”
“I didn’t expect you to be so young. I heard Wind is part of a series. When can we expect the next one?”
“It’s already done. It’s called Rainy.”
She sat back in her wheelchair, her demeanor calm but unwavering.
In her previous life, Daniel had won the Best Singer award with
this very song.

Jesse, now clearly impressed, turned to Daniel. “I look forward to hearing your new song, Mr. Daniel Hargreaves.”
As the charity auction began, the crowd started to move toward
the venue.
Once most of the guests had left, Daniel approached Jennifer.
“So all of this was to get me to use your new song, w
