Chapter 5
People gathered around, pointing and
gossiping.
The old woman smiled wickedly at me, as if
to say, “You dared to leave us, so I’ll ruin your
reputation. You will not find work here.”
Ashley was more impacted than I thought she
would be.
The moment the old hag started yelling at me,
Ashley looked petrified, cowering, and
shaking violently.
L
As more people arrived, she looked like she
was about to pass out.
I was panicked. I put my arms around her,
trying to calm her down, and trying to help
her stand.
“Get away from us!” I screamed.
Seeing that Ashley was unstable, the crowd
of onlookers backed off. They were there for
the drama, not to get involved.
But the old hag took a step forward and
stood right in front of me, pushing me.
“What, are you trying to run? You can’t
<
handle the truth.”
She was strong, and I was thrown backward,
almost making Ashley fall too.
I turned so that I would land first. My only
thought was to not let Ashley get hurt.
Crack! My ankle had twisted.
It hurt, but Ashley was unharmed. I got back
- up.
I went to push the old hag away, my voice
shaking with rage: “You old witch, get lost!
Find a public restroom to lick, instead of
spreading your venom in public!”
<
“I’m your elder, how dare you talk to me like
that?”
She fell on her backside, and started to
scream and cry.
“Help, someone! She hit me!”
“The little brat pushed me, my back is
broken. Everyone saw it. Tell the cops that
she’s the attacker!”
She was yelling, acting as if she was in great
pain.
When dealing with this type of person, you
have to play dirty.
く
I collapsed to the ground and screamed.
“Help! This old woman pushed me and broke
my leg! I’m in so much pain! Someone call
the cops! Catch this criminal!”
My voice was louder and more dramatic.
When I moved, I accidentally kicked the foot
that I injured. The sharp pain made my face
pale, making it look like I was seriously
injured.
The onlookers didn’t know who was telling the
truth, so they started calling the police.
The old hag was startled, she jumped up,
stuttering and denying responsibility.
く
“No… No, it wasn’t me. You all saw it, she fell
down herself.
I slowly stood up, smirking at her: “You said
your back was broken, how are you standing
up so quickly?”
She was speechless.
I didn’t want to deal with her any longer.
Ashley was shaking and her breathing was
becoming labored.
I took her in my arms and limped towards the
entrance, reassuring her softly.
“It’s okay, she’s not going to hurt you. I’ll
<
protect you.”
The old hag didn’t have a good reputation in
this community, most people knew how she
acted. No one stepped in, and they moved
aside so we could pass.
She saw that no one was going to back her
- up. When she noticed how much I cared
about Ashley, she rushed to grab her.
“No, you’re not leaving. I want an explanation.
You can’t leave yet.”
“Are you the new boss that this little trash
has been working for? Are you hiding your
face from us? Why, are you ashamed?”
<
“Well, it makes sense, you’re probably as bad
as she is! You guys are cut from the same
cloth. Let’s see how shady you are!”
Since she had been sick, Ashley became
extremely sensitive to any outside contact.
It took me a long time to gain her trust.
This old hag was adding fuel to the fire.
I was terrified. I swung my good leg to push
her away. Before I could, Ashley reacted.
She screamed, threw her hands around wildly,
hitting the old woman across the face.
…
<
SMACK!
The sound was loud, and everyone fell silent.
Then the old hag started to scream as if she
was being slaughtered.
Ashley was at her breaking point. She was throwing punches, kicking, and yelling, “Leave
me alone, don’t touch me!”
The mother–in–law was caught off–guard.
She had taken several hits, one side of her
face was swelling.
When she tried to attack, we heard a loud yell
from the crowd.
く
“What do you think you’re doing?”
It was Evelyn, followed by a group of security
guards in black suits.
