“You’ve given me everything, saved me again
and again. You’re my angel and my love. I
won’t let anyone hurt you. Even Sarah, who’s
carrying my baby and is supposed to be my
wife, has no right to lay a finger on you.”
A flicker of something unnatural passed over
Tiffany’s face. Her cheeks flushed, and she
twisted in his arms before saying, “Honey, it’s
not just this, but other places were also
burned. I’m embarrassed to let a doctor
examine me.”
Mark’s eyes flared with desire. He pushed her
down onto the bed. “Then let me personally
see if Tiffany is red all over?”
Tiffany was wearing the matching pajamas
Mark had designed for our wedding. She was
on the carefully selected sheets while she had
her way with my husband.
Lost in the heat of the moment, Mark
く
grabbed Tiffany’s leg, and her leg hit the
photo I had placed on the bedside table.
It was a photo a passerby had snapped of
Mark and me right after we got our marriage
license. A photo of us in the happy
beginnings of our marriage.
The glass shattered, splitting me and him into
two separate pieces.
Broken mirrors are hard to fix, but a few
months ago, I was still imagining that if I
could give birth to the baby, would there be a
sliver of a chance that Mark would come back
to me and the child?
That would never be possible, because I was
already dead.
It turned out that being a ghost can also
break your heart.
As I listened to Tiffany on the bed coo about
wanting to give birth to a baby for Mark, I felt
an aching pain.
Mark was right. In that painful environment, I
gave birth to my child quickly.
I would have preferred that he stayed in my
belly for a bit longer, so that his mother could
take on the pain of the heat and buy him
some hope of survival.
But my child was too good, he was born in
just a few minutes.
I did my best to force open a gap in the
steamer and beg the people standing guard
く
outside, “I’ve given birth to the baby. He’s not
crying and his breathing is fast stopping.
Please, just save my baby and bring him to
the hospital!”
They stared at me with fearful expressions
and were about to press the off switch.
Then Tiffany’s crying came from outside the
cafeteria, “Honey, how could she use the
baby’s life to try and gain your sympathy?
Does she know that her words might actually
come true?”
“She’s so lucky to be able to get pregnant
with your child and have a smooth birth. She
doesn’t even appreciate what she has, and
now she’s cursing her own child.”
“She knows how much I wanted a child. Is she
deliberately trying to rub salt into my
wounds?”
Seeing Tiffany sobbing in his arms, Mark’s
rage flared!
“It seems my punishment wasn’t harsh
enough. You still have the strength to use the
baby to provoke Tiffany!”
“Someone get that iron chain and chain the
steamer up. We can’t let her have any more
chances to shout!”
His goons hesitated, and Mark took the chain.
himself and wrapped it around the steamer.
During the whole ordeal, he vaguely heard the
cries of a baby, like a tiny kitten, coming from.
the steamer, and he hesitated for a second.
く
Then Tiffany said, “Sarah is just good at
mimicking. It reminded me of the first night
you and I were together. The next day, she
even pretended to be me and tricked you…”
Mark thought of something and couldn’t
contain his disgust.
“Everyone get out of here. I don’t want you
being deceived by that slt Sarah, or else you
will end up letting her out.”
“I’ll let her out when Tiffany’s wound stops
hurting.”
He chased all the employees out and left the
still screaming me inside the hot steamer,
closing the cafeteria, doors.
