She would be as obedient as she used to be.

But today, at the police station, she was being so determined…
It hit Anthony all at once.
He realized that… this time, Abigail was serious.
The feeling of panic swept over him again, to the point where he couldn’t even tell if he had fallen asleep or if it was just his stomachache making him dizzy.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Michelle was still playing the rol of the loving and gentle woman.
After Diana caused a scene, she fell ill.
She couldn’t sleep at all that night, and even taking melatonin didn’t help.
She cried endlessly.
Michelle was the first to switch her melatonin for sleeping pi and fed them to her.
Only then did Diana quiet down and fall asleep.
But just as that situation settled, Marcus had his own issue.

The boy ran over crying, not even bothering to put on slippers.
“Michelle, 1 had a bad dream. I’m scared. Michelle, will you tell me a story?”
Michelle forced a smile, doing her best to stay patient, afraid that if he cried any more, it would wake Diana up.
That would really be the last straw for her.
“Okay, go wait in your room. I’ll be there soon, alright?”
As soon as Marcus left, the smile faded from Michelle’s face.
She stood beside Diana’s bed, clenching her fists in anger.
Damn it, even a kid was starting to drive her crazy.
Now the older one was acting up too.
soon, she suppressed her anger, taking a deep breath.
No matter what, only by getting on the good side of both the old and the young would her chance of marrying Anthony increase.
“Great deeds are achieved through hardship,” she thought to herself, realizing that she had finally understood that principle.
For a moment, she even found herself somewhat admiring Abigail.

Both the old and the young were difficult to please, and Anthony wasn’t supporting her.
How had Abigail managed all these years?
After glaring at Diana, Michelle headed to Marcus‘ room.
It was already well into the early hours of the morning.
She gritted her teeth, forcing a smile, and sat down on Marcus‘ bed.
Looking at Marcus‘ drowsy face, she just wanted him to go to sleep quickly.
“If kids don’t sleep well, they’ll get stupid, you know?” she said.
But Marcus wasn’t listening. He clung to her, insisting on hearing a story.
“Just tell me a story, please,” he begged.
Although he had lived with Diana, every time he had a nightmare, no matter what time it was, he would call Abigail.
Abigail always answered right away, even in the middle of the night, and patiently told him stories.
Sometimes, when Marcus woke up the next morning, he would find a voicemail from Abigail, reading him a story.
But now, still sulking over their fight, he didn’t want to call her.

Since Michelle was treating him so well, surely, she would tell
him a story too.
Marcus looked at her with hopeful eyes.
Michelle gritted her teeth. She had to work tomorrow.
How could this little brat be so insensitive?
But she kept the smile plastered on her face and reached into her pocket, pulling out a chocolate bar and a bag of chips.
Marcus‘ eyes lit up when he saw them. “Wow! Is this for me?”
Marcus reached for the treats, but Michelle quickly hid them. behind her.
“Of course, they’re for you,” she said. “But I have one little request. If you do what I ask, I’ll give them to you. And I’ll buy you snacks like this all the time.”
Marcus nodded eagerly. “Tell me! I’ll do anything.”
“We’re going to sleep now. If you sleep like a good boy, I’ll give you these tomorrow, alright?”
Though Marcus was reluctant, the promise of all the snacks he couldn’t usually have from Abigail was too tempting.
He grudgingly nodded and laid back down in bed.

Michelle looked at him and then opened the chocolate, breaking off a piece to give him.
When Marcus took a bite, a smile finally appeared on his face.
“Good boy,” she said. “Eat your snack, and then sleep like a good boy. When you wake up tomorrow, all these treats will be yours.”
Marcus hugged her arm.
“Michelle, you’re the best. I love you.”
Michelle patted his arm.
“Stop being mushy. Go to sleep. I have to work tomorrow. If I keep staying up like this, I’ll turn into an old hag,” she muttered inwardly.
But just as Marcus finished his chocolate, he sat up again.
“I have to brush my teeth after eating.”
Michelle was ready to kick him out of bed.
But she took a deep breath and said patiently, “Don’t worry, Marcus. Just for tonight, you don’t have to brush your teeth.”
Marcus wasn’t a fan of brushing his teeth either, but Abigail used to call him every night to remind him to do so.
Hearing Michelle say this, Marcus was even happier.

He lay into her arm, and in no time, he was fast asleep.
When Marcus finally fell sleep peacefully, Michelle’s smile gradually disappeared, replaced by cold, calculating eyes.

No matter how much she disliked it or how unwilling she was, she had to keep up the act of being the loving stepmother and dutiful wife of Anthony.
Only by doing so could she hold on to her chance with Anthony.
The next morning, when Abigail woke up, it was already at eight in the morning.
Felix hadn’t woken her up for their morning run, probably realizing that she had drunk too much the night before and couldn’t get up today.
By the time she realized how late it was, it was too late to make breakfast.
She had to get ready and go meet a client soon.
So, after quickly getting ready, Abigail knocked on Felix’s door.
He had already dressed, seemingly waiting for her.
But for some reason, he looked a little uncomfortable.
Usually, when he opened the door in the morning, he was full of energy after a run, but today he seemed lethargic.

His face was so grim that even Abigail felt uneasy.
“Mr. Rowe, I won’t have time to cook today. How about I take you out for breakfast instead?” she offered.
Felix didn’t say anything but followed her into the elevator.
Once they got into the car, Felix drove them to a place, and Abigail absentmindedly scrolled through her phone, trying to message Amy to ask how much she’d spent last night so she could pay Amy.

But Amy wasn’t replying to her messages or picking up her calls.
Abigail guessed that Amy was probably still asleep at that hour, so she gave up and waited for a reply.
The car stopped in front of a café.
They got out, and Felix immediately ordered two breakfast bagels with coffee.
After paying, they sat down, and Felix brought the food over.
The shop wasn’t very big, but it had a steady stream of customers.
Abigail took a bite of the bagel, and as soon as it hit her taste buds, she understood why the place was so popular–it was out–of–this–world food.

Felix usually ate with gusto, but today he seemed to be dragging his feet, not really interested in his food.
Abigail chewed, her checks full, but couldn’t help herself and asked, “Mr. Rowe, are you upset?”
Felix glared at her coldly. “Eat your food.”
This was the first time Abigail had seen Felix like this.
She was startled and immediately took another bite of her bagel.
Seeing her react this way, and remembering what she had said the night before, Felix felt his anger flare up even more.
