Chapter 109 Belated Love Is Nothing
Abigail understood that Amy was just flustered because she cared.

She smiled and reassured her, “Don’t worry. I’m not softening. I just think Marcus is still a child. Even though I’m not asking for custody, and despite the fact that he can be ungrateful at times, I…”
Abigail sighed.
“Actually, Marcus‘ situation is partly my responsibility.”
When Diana insisted on taking care of Marcus, if Abigail had been able to stop her more or had been able to reject her without hesitation, maybe Marcus wouldn’t have turned out like this.
She remembered the last time at the kindergarten, Marcus looked just like Anthony.
She thought, “Children are like blank sheets of paper. How adults draw on them determines what they become.”
Diana raised a son like Anthony, she could very well turn Marcus into another version of him.
But now, it was too late to dwell on the past.

“I just think that, even though Marcus has disappointed me, I am still his mother. There are things I can advise, and I should still make them clear to Anthony.”
Amy understood what she meant.
In the end, it was all for Marcus.
The adults‘ matters had nothing to do with the child. With Marcus, it was impossible to completely sever ties between her and Anthony.
In the past, whenever they met, Anthony would always take his
time.
But today, he arrived surprisingly fast.
From the moment the call ended to the time he appeared at the café, it hadn’t even been twenty minutes.
Seeing him coming, Abigail stood up and told Amy, “I’m going to talk to him at that table over there. Wait for me here.”
Amy nodded. She would, of course, obediently wait. She also needed to quickly give her brother a heads–up, make sure he had a sense of urgency, and take action.
With that thought, as Abigail and Anthony sat at a nearby table, Amy took out her phone and secretly snapped a picture of them, then sent it to Felix.

Abigail, completely unaware, watched Anthony and couldn’t help but notice how quickly he had lost weight.
The waiter came over, and Anthony placed his order.

“Two black coffees.” Then he looked at Abigail. “I remember you like black coffee.”
Abigail smiled and shook her head at the waiter. “Just one for him, I’ll have a latte.”
The waiter noted it down and went to prepare the drinks.
Anthony’s face visibly soured.
“Your taste has changed.”
Abigail met his gaze, feeling an indescribable sense of distance.
“Actually, my taste has always been like this. All these years, I’ve been drinking black coffee to match yours, but I don’t like the bitterness. I prefer the smoothness of a latte.”
Anthony furrowed his brow slightly.
Before he arrived, he hadn’t even known exactly what he wanted to say to Abigail.
But now that he was face to face with her, he had so much to say, yet he didn’t know how to start.
Abigail, however, cut straight to the point.

“I’ve already compiled all the things to watch out for regarding Marcus‘ daily life and diet into a document. I’ve sent it to your phone. You can check it.”
Anthony opened his phone and saved the document.
Abigail continued, “Anthony, the reason I agreed to meet you today is about Marcus. There’s something else I need to say.”
Anthony looked at her. “Go ahead.”
He was even hoping that maybe Abigail regretted it, maybe she didn’t want to let Marcus go and would try to fight him for custody.
Or maybe she was going to try to get him to agree to let her see Marcus on a regular basis.
He wanted to keep her tied to him, not as strangers, like before.
But Abigail’s next words shattered his last bit of hope.
“Anthony, Marcus doesn’t actually love me. You’ve seen it over the years, haven’t you?”
Anthony lowered his head slightly.
How could he not see it? Marcus, as a child, had been bullying his mother.
But over the years, he had brushed it off, thinking it wasn’t that

“But no matter what, Marcus is still my child. I can accept that we no longer have any relationship, but I sincerely hope that he grows up to be a good person.”
Anthony’s brows furrowed deeper as he looked at her. “What do you mean?”
“It is simple. You saw it last time at the kindergarten. Even at his age, he’s already trying to use money to solve problems. Do you think that’s the right value system, Anthony? He’s still young, and there’s time to correct things. Don’t wait until he’s older and regret it.”
Anthony’s brow furrowed even more.
Abigail continued, “Whether you choose to rebuild your family with Michelle, or with someone else, or even if you decide to live alone, whatever your choice, I hope Marcus doesn’t stay with your mother any longer.
“After all, you saw what she did at my company. Every generation has its own gap in understanding. Do you really think it’s good for Marcus to continue living with her?”
Anthony didn’t say anything, his finger absentmindedly tracing the rim of his cup.
Abigail added, “If Marcus could stand by and watch me get hurt, even making sarcastic remarks, do you think he won’t do the

Anthony gritted his teeth. He had been thinking about these issues lately.

But if Abigail were still around, it would be fine. Marcus would be taken care of.
Now that Abigail was gone, he couldn’t handle the child alone.
With that thought, Anthony looked at her.
“Abigail, you’re saying all this because you still care about Marcus. Since you still love him, why are you deliberately trying to cut ties?”
Abigail smiled but didn’t answer.
Anthony, seeing her indifferent expression, became a bit
anxious.
“Abigail, I promised you I’d bring Marcus back and raise him ourselves. Just like you said, there’s still time to make things right. But I can’t do this alone. For the sake of the child, will you come back? I won’t hold the past against you. We can raise Marcus together, and live as a family of three. What do you say?”
This was something Abigail hadn’t expected him to say.
But it didn’t shake her resolve in the slightest.

Anthony became agitated, his tone slightly desperate. “Abigail, we’re adults now, parents. We can’t be selfish. Can’t you even do it for Marcus?”
Abigail looked at him firmly and shook her head.
