Chapter 124 Two Sides of the Same Coin
Abigail had been questioning the whole thing lately.
Ever since the last gathering, she’d become a lot closer with some of the colleagues at the firm.
That’s when she learned that Felix hadn’t just taken on one of these unprofitable cases.
He’d handled more than one, and apparently, it wasn’t unusual at the firm. Lawyers there were regularly picking up these kinds
of cases.
A huge law firm, so many people working there, and yet Felix -of all people was diving into these unprofitable cases. What was he really after?
Most bosses were just in it for the money, right?
Abigail shot a glance at Felix, meeting the confused stares of the
other two.
Felix put down his spoon, flashing them a smug grin.
“Is it so hard to believe I’m just in it for fairness and justice?”
The three of them rolled their eyes. They didn’t buy it, but still, they couldn’t help but laugh.
waal soon you take on these
Chapter 124 Two Sides of the Same Coin Felix knew he couldn’t dodge the question anymore.
The smile faded from his face, and his expression shifted to something more serious.

“I just think… as long as I’m making enough to live on, and can take care of myself, I might as well do some good. Maybe earn a little karma while I’m at it.”
The look on his face made it clear he wasn’t in the mood to discuss it any further, so Vivian and her daughter decided to drop it for now.
After a long pause, Vanessa suddenly looked up and asked, “Felix, you’re so handsome, so rich, and so kind–are there really not a ton of girls lining up to date you? How come you don’t have a girlfriend?”
Abigail nearly spit her soup out in surprise, forcing herself to swallow it down with a couple of coughs.
Felix gave her an eye–roll. “What? Jealous of Vanessa flattering
me?”
Abigail quickly shook her head. “Sorry, just a reflex.”
Felix snorted.
Vanessa watched the two of them, and the more she looked, the more suspicious it seemed.
She narrowed her eyes and leaned in, asking Felix again, “Felix, do you have a girl you like? What kind of girl do you like?”

But Vanessa wasn’t backing down. “No, I’m seriously asking. If you don’t have a girlfriend when I’m older, I’ll totally chase after you. How’s that sound?”
Vivian, overhearing, quickly grabbed her daughter’s arm. “Stop talking nonsense and eat your food!”
Vanessa grinned. “Mom, I’m serious! Felix is so great. If I were old enough, I’d definitely go after him.”
With that, Vanessa turned her gaze to Abigail, who had been silently sipping her soup.
“Abigail, what do you think of Felix?”
Caught off guard by the sudden question, Abigail froze for a
moment.
Then, she felt Felix’s eyes on her, like he was waiting for her
answer.
Sophia knew exactly how to ask the right questions.
After all, Felix was Abigail’s boss. Could Abigail really say anything bad?
With that thought, Abigail gave a sly smile. “Felix? Of course, he’s great. Handsome, wealthy, and–most importantly–kind.”
Felix raised an eyebrow, looking unsatisfied.
“Those are all things Vanessa just said. Don’t you have any new compliments for me?” he teased.

“I do. You’re really strong. If it weren’t for you today, Skyla wouldn’t have been saved.”

Her response instantly wiped the playful look off Felix’s face and crushed Vanessa’s expectant grin.
ivian, having seen her fair share of situations, immediately caught on.
Watching the way Felix was looking at Abigail, it clicked.
It was like they were two sides of the same coin–Felix, the charming peacock, and Abigail, the no–nonsense, straightforward type..
Felix hadn’t gotten the reaction he was hoping for, so he scowled, grabbed his fork, and stabbed a piece of steak, clearly trying to calm himself down.
Abigail, noticing he was about to grab his fork with his left hand, beat him to it, picking up a new spoon and offering it to him for the vegetables.
Only then did his expression soften a little.
Vanessa, still with a teasing smile, wasn’t ready to let up.
“Abigail, you’re so pretty and sweet. There must be tons of guys after you. How come you don’t have a boyfriend?”
At those words, Felix’s steak slid off his spoon and plopped onto the table.
Abigail paused for a moment, then smiled knowingly.
Chapter 124 Two Sides of the Same Coin “I’m already married. My kid’s in preschool now.”
Vanessa’s jaw dropped in surprise.

She’d been trying to play matchmaker, but she hadn’t expected Abigail to be a married woman.
The atmosphere turned awkward in an instant.
After a long pause, Vivian cautiously spoke up.
“So… why haven’t we seen your husband or your kid around?”
Abigail shrugged, answering casually, “I’m divorced. My kid’s with his dad. The divorce case was actually handled by Mr. Rowe, who managed to get half of the guy’s assets. So, I’d say, you should trust him and go for it–take a leap of faith.”
With that, Abigail stood up and walked toward the kitchen to serve herself some bread.
Vivian took a sip of water, trying to process the shock.
Vanessa, on the other hand, was left staring wide–eyed at Felix, who looked oddly pleased with himself.
“Wow, so this is what the adults get up to, huh?” She thought.
Sophia couldn’t decide whether Felix was impressive or just downright sneaky.
The second half of the meal passed in a subtle silence, and the atmosphere light yet was filled with unspoken awkwardness.
Chapter 124 Two Sides of the Same Coin Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Amy was feeling a lot more nervous than the group at the table.

Justin had booked a window seat at a restaurant with a view of
the river.
my had prepared for this moment all day. She’d taken a nice, relaxing beauty sleep in the morning, followed by a pampering session at the salon in the afternoon.
When she got back, she carefully did her makeup, popped in some fresh contacts, and curled her hair. She even picked out a bright red mini skirt to wear.
She’d thought it all through–if he agreed to be with her, she’d step confidently into a beautiful new chapter of her life.
If not, well, she’d just leave gracefully and show him she could rock her life on her own.
With those thoughts in mind, Amy strutted into the restaurant with her head held high, her steps full of confidence.
She made her way toward the table, following the number he
had sent her.
Amy arrived at the restaurant, heart pounding with nervous. anticipation, only to find that he still wasn’t there.
They had agreed to meet at six in the afternoon, and the table she had reserved offered a perfect view of the sunset.
She had thought it was kind of romantic, but in an attempt to
seem
Chapter 124 Two Sides of the Same Coin calm and composed, she’d arrived ten minutes late.
What she hadn’t expected was that he hadn’t arrived either.
Amy sat down, pulling out her phone to message him.
Are you still on your way?]
She waited, but no reply came. So, she called. No answer.

Frustrated, she settled in and tried to be patient, waiting for him to show up.
The sunset really was beautiful, with soft pink and purple hues blending together.
But, as with all beautiful things, it faded too quickly.
By the time Justin was twenty minutes late, the sunset was nearly gone.
Amy snapped a photo of the view and sent it to him.
She called again. No answer.
Three hours passed.
The table next to hers had already been occupied by two different groups of people.
By nine o’clock in the evening, the restaurant was almost empty, and Amy’s feelings had shifted from nervous excitement to simmering frustration.
Chapter 124 Two Sides of the Same Coin A waiter approached her.

“Miss, we’re about to close the restaurant. I’m afraid we’ll have to ask you to leave.”
my gritted her teeth, grabbed her purse, and stood up to leave.
Tears burned at the corners of her eyes, but she held them back, refusing to let them fall.
Maybe this was Justin’s answer after all.
