Chapter 129 Rumors Stop With the Wise
Though Felix thought this in his mind, he didn’t pass up the opportunity to snag a seat at the table.
The group of them made their way to the dining area together.
The boss came over with the menu, and Amy casually doodled
on it.
The atmosphere grew a bit awkward.
After a long pause, Xander’s eyes shifted to Felix, who spoke first.
“You’re Felix, right?”
Felix played it cool, trying to look indifferent, but there was still a smugness in the way his brows lifted.
Xander continued, “I remember, Felix, you’re one of our seniors. Your name’s still up on the board of top graduates at school.”
Felix poured himself a glass of water.
“After all the lawsuits I’ve handled, it’s not surprising that people in the industry know me. But it’s funny–you know me, and I don’t even know who you are.”
Felix usually liked to joke around, but he was always polite

“I’m a junior, a year behind Abigail. I spent a few years developing my career abroad, but recently made the switch back to the domestic market. Name’s Xander.”
Felix gave a small nod, adopting a senior’s air.
“The difference between the domestic and international markets. is huge. Lawsuits here are no joke. You’ve just come back, so you’re probably still lacking some experience. But that’s alright. Since you’re Abigail’s classmate, feel free to stop by our firm anytime for a tour.”
Amy secretly grinned to herself.
Classic Felix, she thought. He turned the conversation around in just a few words.
Abigail shot Felix a sidelong glance, her expression a mix of annoyance and intrigue, but Felix didn’t seem to care.
As the three of them were locked in what felt like an epic showdown, Justin leaned over to Amy and whispered, pressing his face close to her ear.
“Do you think they’re about to throw down?”
Amy mumbled back, “No way. Both of them are lawyers. They

better than to break the law, right? Besides, aren’t you a cop? If it comes to blows, you can step in and mediate.”
Xander, on the other hand, seemed like he was trying to play the humble student.
“Is that so? If I get the chance, that’d be great. So… Abigail’s working with you now?”
Felix couldn’t help but feel a little smug.
Watching them chat so excitedly, he found it funny that after all this back–and–forth, Xander still didn’t know where Abigail worked.
Felix let out a sly smile.
“Didn’t Abigail tell you? She’s my personal assistant now.”
Felix turned to Abigail with a playful grin. “See? This is your fault. You should’ve told your old classmates by now.”
“Me?” Abigail was momentarily at a loss for words.
She couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that something was off, but she couldn’t quite pinpoint what.
It was strange–both of them had smiles plastered on their faces, but sitting between them, she couldn’t shake the cold, prickling sensation creeping down her spine.
Xander nodded thoughtfully. “It’s not Abigail’s fault. I’ve been overseas for years, so I’ve lost touch with everyone. But even out there, I kept hearing about you, Felix.”

Then, as if a light bulb had gone off in his head, Xander added, “Oh, right! You’re probably the top lawyer in the country now, aren’t you? I remember you even made it onto the celebrity list last year.”
His words practically had Felix glowing.
“Forget about rivals–this guy was way too considerate.” He thought.
Even though the smug grin was practically splitting Felix’s face, he managed to keep up the indifferent act.
“Ah, it’s all just hype. The younger generation is something to watch out for. I hope you’ll achieve even more than I have in the future.”
Xander’s gaze f
flickered down to Felix’s arm, which was still suspended in a sling.
“Felix, what happened to your hand?”
Amy jumped in, and her curiosity was piqued. “Yeah, I was wondering that too. What’s going on with your arm?”
Before Felix could answer, Abigail beat him to it.
“There was a case today. The defendant couldn’t handle the verdict and almost jumped off a building. Felix was brave enough to intervene and save them.”
Amy’s eyes widened, and she looked at Felix with newfound admiration. “Felix, you’re amazing! You’re like a hero!”

Just then, Xander pushed his glasses up his nose and let out a sly smile.
“No wonder Felix has the reputation he does,” he said, his voice dripping with mockery. “Seems like it’s all true after all.”
The room fell silent at his words. Everyone froze.
Abigail was the first to break the tension, her brow furrowing in confusion as she looked at Xander. “What do you mean by that?”
Xander’s smile only widened, and there was something
cold about it now–like a knife hidden beneath his friendly demeanor.
“Oh, nothing,” he said with a soft chuckle. “Just don’t mind me, Felix. I’m sure you’re used to these kinds of rumors by now.”
Felix immediately saw through the polite words.
It seemed like Xander had been playing nice until now–this was the real jab coming.
“What’s there to mind?” Felix asked, his tone flat. “If you’ve got something to say, just say it.”
Xander feigned embarrassment, his face flushing slightly. “Well, it’s not that big of a deal, really. It’s just that I’ve heard a lot of people say… Felix, the reason you win every case, the reason you’ve never lost, is because…”
Amy leaned in, impatience creeping into her voice. “Because

Chapter 129 Rumors Stop With the Wise Xander paused for effect, drawing the tension out even further. “Because you only take on cases for the winning side. Or, to put it another way, you only take cases where you know you’re right.”
The words hit the room like a cold splash of water. Abigail’s smile immediately vanished, replaced by a look of disbelief.
Amy’s temper flared. “Bullshit. Felix wins because he’s that good -nothing to do with what side he’s on. These are just rumors. from people who can’t keep their mouths shut.”
Xander shrugged, his smile still intact, though now there was something faintly sinister about it. “Yeah, don’t take it too seriously. It’s just gossip, after all. Doesn’t mean much.”
Felix stayed silent, a subtle smile tugging at his lips as he observed Xander’s subtle attack.
But what really caught his attention was Abigail’s reaction–that was what mattered.
Sure enough, the next moment, Abigail spoke up.
“How come I’ve never heard this before?”
Xander raised an eyebrow. “Probably because you’re his assistant. People tend to watch what they say around you.”
Abigail couldn’t help but laugh. “I’ve only been his assistant. for a month, and besides, as the saying goes, rumors stop with the wise. I know Felix. He wouldn’t just take any case for the money.”
Chapter 129 Rumors Stop With the Wise expression deepened.
Felix didn’t need to say a word. This silent battle was already tipping in his favor.
But Xander wasn’t ready to back down.

“A lawyer’s job is to get paid to represent their client. You do everything you can to give them an edge. If you’re only going to take on cases where you know you’ll win, then what’s the point of being a lawyer?”
Before Felix could respond, Abigail was already firing back.
“Wrong. A lawyer’s job is never just about money. Sure, earning a living is normal, but the real purpose of a lawyer is to make sure the guilty are punished and that victims get the justice they deserve.”
Xander pushed again. “So, you’re saying the strong don’t deserve a lawyer’s help?”
Abigail stood her ground, her voice firm. “If we’re talking fairness, then the truth is what matters. The law and the evidence decide everything.”
