Chapter 33 Can’t Hit Her

Abigail didn’t respond directly to Marcus. She bypassed him and walked over to a little girl sitting in a corner.
She recognized the girl called Grace. She accompanied Marcus to the kindergarten before and often saw Grace sitting alone.
Abigail crouched down in front of Grace, a soft smile spreading across her face.
“Grace, I’m a friend of your mommy. She’s busy with work, so she asked me to come and accompany you on the sports day.”
Grace, who usually had to attend the activities alone or had to stay home, immediately brightened up at the idea of someone accompanying her. She stood up with joy.
“Really? You’re here to accompany me? But aren’t you Marcus‘
mom?”
Abigail gently ruffled her hair. She even found herself wondering if she had had a daughter instead of a son, would things have been different?
“Marcus doesn’t like me as his mom. How about I be your temporary mommy for today? Would that be okay?”
Grace beamed and threw herself into Abigail’s arms.

Seeing Abigail so happily hug Grace, Marcus was unhappy. His face turned as dark as storm clouds.
Other kids and their parents exchanged awkward glances, unsure how to react to the situation.
Marcus, furious, clenched his small fists and stormed over to Abigail. Without warning, he tried to hit her leg.
Fortunately, Abigail was quick to dodge.
She was surprised. While Marcus had always been cold to her, this was the first time he had ever physically attacked her.
But she wasn’t completely shocked. After all, with the way Diana and the others had raised him, it was only a matter of time before he acted out like this.
“Marcus, if you really hit me, I will fight back. At that time, crying won’t help.”
“You!” Marcus was trembling with anger. “Don’t think I don’t know! You just want to use other kids to annoy me! But I’m not mad!”
The teacher, seeing the situation escalate, hurried over and pulled Marcus away.
“Marcus, you have to talk things over. No hitting your mom.”

The teacher then turned to Abigail. “Mrs. Robinson, what’s going on?”
Abigail stood up, still holding Grace in her arms.

“Marcus, I’m not mad at you. Just remember what I said. I won’t come to any more of your events. As for Grace, she is my daughter for today, and I’m here to accompany her on the sports day. If you want to find Michelle, you should go ahead.”
With that, Abigail turned to the teacher and added, “I forgot to mention, Marcus‘ father and I are in the process of divorce. I don’t intend to fight for custody, so Marcus will get what he wants. A new mom to accompany him.”
She then walked off with Grace toward the resting area.
Upon hearing this news, the surrounding adults began whispering amongst themselves while the children couldn’t hold back their mocking comments.
“Marcus, your mom really doesn’t want you anymore!”
“Marcus is a kid no mom wants!”
Humiliated again in front of the children, Marcus, still just a child, couldn’t hold back his tears. He collapsed on the ground and started crying loudly.
The teacher, seeing this, hurriedly picked him up and took him to a quieter spot on the field.

“Marcus, don’t cry. Are there other people coming from your family?”
Marcus nodded. “Michelle is coming soon.”
Just then, Michelle and Anthony arrived.
Originally, Anthony hadn’t planned to come, but Michelle, citing Marcus‘ recent mood and health, had persuaded him to come. Even Diana had gently encouraged him to go.
In reality, Michelle wasn’t so much concerned about Marcus.
She was about subtly showing everyone, including Marcus, that Abigail was no longer by Anthony’s side. She was the one accompanying him now.
As soon as they entered the field, they saw Marcus sitting alone, crying, and isolated from the other kids.
They immediately rushed over.
Marcus, seeing his father and Michelle, cried even harder. He ran straight into Michelle’s arms.
“Michelle! You’re finally here! Mommy bullied Marcus!”
Michelle quickly hugged him tightly.
Hearing that Abigail was involved, Anthony walked over to the teacher to inquire about what had happened with a dark face.

Hearing the full story, he understood. His face grew even darker.
“Where is Abigail now?” Anthony’s voice was hoarse, barely controlled.
“She is in the resting area with Grace. The adults‘ business has nothing to do with the kids. Please don’t upset the other children.”
Michelle sat down with Marcus in her arms while the teacher
went off to maintain order among other children.
Without hesitation, Anthony headed straight for the resting
area.
He burst in to see Abigail, who was crouched down, gently brushing the hair of a little girl. The sight only served to fuel his anger further.
