Chapter 41 You Will Regret It
Jason grabbed the phone from Morgan’s hand, his voice full of urgency. “Anthony, I think Morgan’s right. With the Taylor family in such a bad situation right now, if you step in and save them when they’re at their lowest, you’ll be their hero. Abigail will come crawling back to you, begging to reconcile.”
Anthony’s previously tense expression seemed to relax as he heard the suggestion. The idea of regaining control of the situation–of being in a position of power once again–had clearly appealed to him.
“Alright, I get it,” Anthony muttered.
His finger hovered over the phone’s screen, ready to hang up. But Jason’s voice came through once more, louder this time.
“Remember what we said. You need to maintain absolute control. Don’t let her get any of your money!”
Anthony ended the call abruptly. A few moments later, the court session resumed, the atmosphere noticeably less tense.
It was clear that both sides had had some time to calm down.
Anthony’s side spoke first.
“Abigail, you want a divorce, fine. If you believe our marriage is over, then it’s useless to keep trying. But I’ll say this–nothing’s

going to go your way. I won’t give you a single cent of my
money.”

Abigail had expected him to say this, so she remained calm, not flinching. Felix, ever the composed lawyer, stood firmly by her side, unmoving.
Anthony continued, his voice colder now.
“We’ve been married for years, and aside from the fact that you’ve never contributed financially, your family has been living off my support. I’ve been providing for you, and even your family’s company. Now, you want to divorce me and take my assets? I don’t think that’s fair.”
He took a moment to gather his thoughts, looking down at Abigail with disdain. “First, I haven’t cheated. Second, I haven’t physically or verbally abused you. I don’t think I’m the one at fault here. So, I don’t see why I should be the one giving in.”
Abigail opened her mouth to respond, but Felix gently placed a hand on her arm, signaling her to stay silent.
He rose, turning to face the judge.
“We would like to point out,” Felix began, his tone calm but firm, “that just because there’s no physical violence doesn’t mean there’s no potential for abuse. Everyone here saw the defendant’s emotional outburst. And it’s important to note that violence is not only physical. Emotional abuse–cold, silent cruelty–can be just as damaging. The defendant has already admitted that, throughout their marriage, he has never

expressed any genuine affection for his wife. A marriage without love–now, isn’t that the greatest punishment for any woman?”
Felix paused, letting the weight of his words settle over the room. He continued, “And let’s not forget–my client didn’t choose to be a stay–at–home wife out of her own volition. The defendant asked her to abandon her promising academic career. This is her academic transcript.”
Felix handed over Abigail’s transcript to the court staff.
The document was passed around, and everyone could see that Abigail had been an excellent student, with the opportunity for a combined Master’s and PhD program before she gave it all up for her family. Felix’s voice was steady but filled with quiet conviction. “Abigail’s sacrifice was made out of love, but now that sacrifice is being used as a weapon against her. If this is what marriage looks like, who would dare enter into it? Who would dare have children?”
The room fell into an uncomfortable silence as everyone absorbed the full impact of his words.
Anthony’s face darkened, a deep flush of embarrassment spreading across his cheeks. He could barely look at the judge as he nodded in acknowledgment of the evidence, his anger palpable but tightly controlled.
After an hour of deliberation, the judge delivered the final ruling: the marriage was deemed irreparably broken, and the divorce was granted, with assets to be split equally. However, Anthony rejected the decision outright.

“I’m appealing this,” he declared without hesitation.

As the court session ended, Abigail and Felix walked out first, while Anthony and his lawyer lingered behind.
“Abigail.”
Anthony’s voice stopped her in her tracks. She paused, and Felix immediately moved to her side, his stance protective, wary of any aggressive move from Anthony.
Anthony approached, his face a mask of coldness, but there was a twisted smirk on his lips.
“So, you’re serious this time, huh?”
Abigail met his gaze with a frosty calmness. “At this point, do you still think I’m joking?”
“Alright, forget everything else between us for a moment. What about Marcus? Are you really going to leave him to grow up in a broken home? Do you have any sense of responsibility? You’re being so selfish.”
Abigail couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh. “Selfish? If I remember correctly, Marcus has said more than once that he doesn’t want me as his mother. He’s already found someone he thinks is a better option. So, if I leave, maybe he’ll have a better chance at growing up with someone who actually cares.”
Anthony’s face turned a deeper shade of red with fury. “You’ll

“I’d rather regret this than stay stuck in this mud pit for the rest. of my life,” she shot back, her voice biting.
Without giving him a chance to say another word, Abigail turned and walked away, Felix following closely behind her.
As they climbed into the car, Anthony kicked a stone angrily, his frustration evident.
After leaving the courthouse, Felix drove directly back to the firm.
Abigail’s face wasn’t as grim as expected; in fact, there was an inexplicable sense of relief, even a hint of lightness. She felt strangely unburdened, as though the weight of the day had been lifted, despite everything that had transpired.
As soon as they arrived at the office, Felix tossed a folder onto her desk.
“This case is a big one, one of our recent major projects. Take a look at it, and starting tomorrow, I want you to take the lead on it with me.”
Abigail took the folder, settling into the seat next to him as she began to go through the contents.
It felt odd–she had expected Felix to act like most people would after such an intense day, maybe take a moment to unwind before diving back into work.

But instead, he was fully immersed in the case without hesitation. There was something about this direct plunge into work that Abigail couldn’t help but appreciate. It gave her a strange sense of comfort, of purpose, and she found herself liking this focus in him more than she expected.
By the way Felix was working, Abigail could tell his mind was elsewhere, but he suddenly spoke, breaking her concentration. “By the way, I need you to schedule some time to study. I want you to pass the bar exam as soon as possible.”
Abigail froze for a moment, then looked up at him in surprise. “Do I need that to be an assistant?”
Felix didn’t look up from his work, his voice casual but firm. “You don’t need it to be an assistant. But to be a lawyer, you do. Do you plan on being an assistant forever? That shouldn’t be your end goal. I remember you told me your dream was to become a lawyer and fight for justice.”
Abigail was taken aback. She barely remembered saying that out loud. It was a dream from her college days, a youthful ambition that had been buried under years of disillusionment. She remembered her oath, her pride in the idea of becoming a lawyer, the way it had felt like the most natural path for her future.
But years of sacrifice, self–doubt, and her life with Anthony had slowly drained that dream from her.
How could Felix possibly know about that? They’d known each

Sensing her unspoken question. Felix took a sip of his coffee and added casually, “Amy told me. Anyway, achieving your dreams isn’t going to be easy, but I believe you can do it. Good luck.”
Abigail nodded, absorbing his words, but her mind was still spinning. She couldn’t help but wonder why Felix seemed to believe in her when she had long stopped believing in herself.
She recalled that Amy, Felix’s cousin, had always seemed so intimidated by him. Yet, here she was, revealing personal details about herself to him.
Meanwhile, across town, Michelle had just learned of the first court decision. Immediately, she contacted Anthony’s lawyer to find out the outcome.
When she heard that Anthony had decided to appeal, a bitter expression spread across her face. She hadn’t expected him to take this route. She couldn’t decide if he was fighting the divorce because he truly didn’t want it, or if it was simply because he didn’t want to part with his wealth.
Either way, she knew Abigail was pushing him further into a corner, and Michelle couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction. at that.
Later that evening, Michelle called Diana to confirm that Anthony hadn’t returned to the Robinson Estate. Once she had the confirmation, she drove over to the villa.

As soon as she stepped inside, the overwhelming smell of alcohol hit her. She walked deeper into the house, and there, sprawled on the floor, was Anthony. Empty bottles surrounded him, evidence of his heavy drinking.
Michelle walked over to him, snatching the bottle from his hand.
“What do you think you’re doing? You can’t keep drinking like this. Your stomach’s already in bad shape–don’t you care about your health?”
Anthony, still dazed, barely registered her presence at first.
