Chapter 54 Charles Was Hospitalized
After what felt like an eternity, Amy finally picked up the
phone, her breath coming in quick gasps as if she had just run a marathon.
“Are you okay?” Abigail’s heart raced with concern. “What’s going on?”
A troubling thought crossed her mind. “What if something happened? What if she was taken advantage of after drinking too much?”
With a heavy sigh, Amy replied, “I need you to come over- there’s a big problem. Like, really big.”
Before Abigail could ask for details, Amy hung up. Without wasting a moment, she called for a ride and rushed over to Amy’s place with Felix.
As they entered, Abigail punched in the code, and an odd, pungent smell hit her like a freight train.
The sight that met her eyes was even more shocking–Justin was sitting cross–legged on the floor, clutching a trash can, looking utterly miserable.

When she saw them, Amy pouted and rushed over to Abigail, throwing her arms around her.

“Abigail, I’m in big trouble! That was an LV trash can, and look at what he’s done to it!”
She gestured dramatically toward the mess on the sofa.
“And that sofa! I imported it from overseas, and now it’s ruined! Just look at it!”
Abigail quickly patted Amy’s shoulder, trying to soothe her.
Felix raised an eyebrow, a smirk appearing on his face. “Well, you brought him home, didn’t you?”
“I did it out of kindness! Who knew it would end up like this?” Amy huffed.
Justin, listening to the exchange, attempted to rise with the trash can, ready to apologize, “I’m really sorry, I…”
But before he could finish, he doubled over and vomited again.
Amy, exasperated, clutched Abigail tighter, her frustration. bubbling over.

pay you back for the damage, I promise. Just give me a list when you have a chance.”
Despite his earnestness, Amy still pouted, her anger simmering just below the surface.
It took a good bit of coaxing from Abigail to calm her down.
Felix watched Justin’s sheepish demeanor with a hint of satisfaction.
Abigail quipped, trying to lighten the mood, “At this rate, you’re going to need more than a trash can. How about I whip up some soup for everyone?”
Amy’s eyes lit up at the mention of soup. “Yes, please! I could really use that!”
As they settled around the dining table, Justin awkwardly perched on the side, the trash can now banished to the outside.
A short while later, Abigail served steaming bowls of soup to everyone. After a few sips, Justin seemed to feel a bit better.
“Ms. Taylor, I had no idea you could cook this well. This chicken. soup really hits the spot,” he said, a hint of gratitude in his voice.
Abigail smiled warmly, “Just call me Abigail. We’re friends now;
no need to be so formal.”
Amy shot Justin a look. “You’re quite the character. If you can’t handle your drink, don’t try to impress anyone.”

Justin felt a flush of embarrassment. “I didn’t think the drinks
would be that strong.”
He thought, “I usually can handle a few beers, and I figured Amy wouldn’t order anything too intense.”
Unexpectedly, after just one sip, he barely made it a few steps. out of the bar before losing consciousness.
When he opened his eyes again, he found himself lying on a couch, having vomited all over it, with Amy standing nearby, glaring at him with a look that could kill.
Felix had a keen eye; it was clear that Amy had a soft spot for this little cop.
Felix, sipping his soup, decided to dig a little deeper.
“So, Mr. Moore, you graduated from the police academy?”
Justin nodded. “Yep, this is only my second year on the job.”
“Sounds like you’re not from around here.”
“Right. I’m from a small town, not too many people, but the scenery is beautiful.”
As Felix continued to probe, Abigail bit her lip, refilling
everyone’s bowls with more soup, eager to keep the conversation flowing.

To Justin’s surprise, Amy didn’t hesitate. She pulled out her phone and added him without a second thought.
Once Justin was gone, Amy spun around, a triumphant grin plastered across her face as she looked at Abigail and Felix.
“You can tell Gavin and Sunny that I totally nailed our bet. He asked for my WhatsApp!”
Felix stepped forward, playfully tugging at her ear.
“You’re getting bolder by the day, aren’t you? Bringing home guys, especially drunk ones. Just wait until your dad hears about this.”
Amy pouted, instantly feeling guilty. “Felix, please! I know I messed up! Don’t tell Dad. That old man would probably break my legs if he found out.”
Abigail knew all too well how much Amy feared her father.
Felix finally released her ear with a sigh. “Next time you pull a stunt like this, just you wait.”

Felix, hearing this, rolled up his sleeves as if ready for another round of playful punishment, and Amy squealed, darting around the room.

By the time they left Amy’s place, it was already past midnight. Although Abigail hadn’t overindulged, fatigue was creeping in.
Once home, she quickly washed up and crawled into bed.
The next morning, she was jolted awake by her mother’s frantic phone call.
Still groggy, Abigail could hear the tremor in Laura’s voice, instantly snapping her to attention.
“Mom, what’s wrong?”
“It’s bad, Abigail. Your dad… he’s…”
A cold wave of dread washed over her. Without wasting a moment, she threw on some clothes and rushed to the hospital.
When she burst through the doors of the surgery waiting area, she found Laura in tears, her face streaked with distress.

As soon as she spotted Abigail, she rushed into her arms. “Abigail, you’re finally here!”
Abigail forced herself to stay calm. “What happened? How did Dad suddenly have a heart attack?”
Laura choked back sobs, her anger bubbling over. “Anthony is a monster! He’s the reason for this!”
Abigail’s heart sank. She felt a chill run down her spine at the mention of Anthony. “What did he do?”
“Your dad was trying to talk to him about some investment he pulled out of. He just wanted to clear the air after seeing what you were going through with the divorce. But when he saw you were suffering, he thought, ‘Why should Abigail rely on the Robinsons?‘ So he decided to go after some funding on his own.”
Laura’s voice dripped with venom as she continued, “But yesterday, all the investments and loans he was counting on suddenly fell through. Your dad found out that Anthony was behind it all!
“Everything fell apart–the funding dried up, the projects stalled, and now there are half–finished buildings everywhere. This morning, your dad got the news and… he just couldn’t handle it. He collapsed!”
Laura’s sobs intensified, and Abigail felt a wave of nausea wash over her.
She had known Anthony would make things difficult for the
