Felix smiled warmly. “It’s no trouble at all. I’m just glad I can help Abigail.”
Seeing his easygoing attitude, Abigail stepped forward, a hint of urgency in her voice. “Don’t listen to my mom. I really don’t want to impose on you. I’ll handle this myself.”
She felt uneasy about accepting too much help from Felix; she wasn’t sure how she would ever repay him.
Felix turned to Laura, grabbing her hand with the familiarity of an old friend.
“Abigail always tries to be polite with me. But as her friend, I just want to lend a hand. Please don’t refuse my offer.”
Laura’s eyes sparkled with approval, and she nodded enthusiastically.
“Mom!” Abigail interjected, sensing Laura wasn’t taking her seriously.
But before she could say more, the two of them were already deep in conversation, completely overlooking her.

They bantered for a while until Felix’s phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen but didn’t answer.
Seizing the opportunity, Abigail pulled him to his feet.
“That’s probably your client getting anxious. I don’t have anything pressing right now, so why don’t you go get back to work?”
Laura nodded in agreement. “Yes, dear, work is important.”
Felix chuckled. “Alright then, I should check in with my client. He’s on this floor, anyway. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
With that, Laura shared an encouraging smile, and Abigail quickly guided Felix out of the hospital room.
“What’s the rush? I was just chatting with your mom. Why are you so anxious?” he teased as they walked.
Abigail sighed, trying to explain, “My mom can be a bit too outgoing. Just don’t take it too personally.”
“Honestly, I think your mom’s personality is great. I quite like her,” Felix replied with a grin as they reached the elevator.
As they waited, Felix leaned in. “So, little canary, how do you
plan to strike back?”
Abigail had been mulling that over herself. “I want a quick divorce and to get my fair share of the assets. It won’t solve all our family business issues, but at least it’ll give me some funds to help keep things afloat.”
Felix nodded. “You know Anthony won’t make it easy for you, right?”
Abigail clenched her jaw. “Of course I know. That’s why I plan to change my strategy for the second appeal.”
Felix raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “Tell me more.”
“There’s been too much focus on emotional fallout. Anthony has easily dismissed our claims by playing the victim. If he turns into the wrongdoer in our marriage, the scales of justice will naturally tip in my favor.”
Felix’s gaze held a hint of pride and amusement as he looked at her.
Abigail caught the expression and realized something.
“You’ve been thinking about making him the wrongdoer all along, haven’t you?”
Felix smirked. “What makes you say that?”
“If you hadn’t, you wouldn’t have asked me how I was planning to fight back. Why not just say it outright? You’re my lawyer,

Just then, the elevator doors slid open, and Felix stepped inside, still grinning.
As the doors began to close, he looked back at her, his tone serious yet gentle.
“Abigail, I may be your lawyer, but don’t forget that you’re also a law student.
“This was your dream–to become a lawyer.”
With that, the doors shut, leaving Abigail standing in the hallway, her mind racing.
She understood now that Felix wanted her to reclaim her legal weapons, to defend herself and rediscover who she was.
Abigail couldn’t help but smile faintly before she turned to head. back into the room.
Just as she entered, Charles began to stir awake.
At that moment, a group of people walked in, led by an older. doctor who looked quite distinguished, followed by several other doctors of varying ages.
Abigail paused, taken aback. “What’s going on here?”
The lead professor spoke first, his voice steady and authoritative, “Ms. Taylor, good to see you. We’re all cardiology

specialists here to consult on Mr. Taylor’s case. We’ll be overseeing his treatment from now on.”
Abigail felt a wave of unease wash over her. “Is this a service your hospital offers?”
The doctors exchanged glances, then nodded in unison.
“Our top priority is patient satisfaction, Ms. Taylor. Rest

assured, we’ll do everything we can to ensure Mr. Taylor makes a swift recovery.”
Despite their assurances, something felt off to Abigail.
The Taylor family had connections, but not enough to pull in such a large group of specialists.
She mused, “There’s no way Dad and Mom know them.
Was this… Felix?”
The thought flickered through her mind but was quickly dismissed.
In his mind, while Felix had a wide network, it would take more than connections to assemble so many experts for a single patient.
He was just a lawyer; how could he wield that kind of influence?
Sure, he could arrange for a couple of caregivers, but this? It was hard for her to believe.

With no clear answers, Abigail decided to let it go for now.
Regardless of how it happened, having so many people looking after her father was a relief.
After thorough examinations, the specialists confirmed that Charles‘ surgery had gone exceptionally well. As the anesthesia. wore off, he gradually regained consciousness.
However, speaking was still a struggle, and after a brief moment of awareness, he drifted back into slumber.
Laura and Abigail stayed close by, keeping vigil.
Laura glanced at Abigail, noticing the dark circles under her
eyes.
‘Abigail, your dad is stable now, and with all these experts around, why don’t you head home for a bit? You look exhausted.”
Abigail shook her head firmly. “I’m fine, Mom. I want to stay here tonight to take care of Dad. You should go home and rest.”
“But…” Laura started to protest, but Abigail cut her off.
“It’s okay, Mom. Just go home for tonight. You can come back tomorrow to help out. We can’t both be here wearing ourselves thin. If we collapse, who’s going to take care of Dad?”
Laura finally relented, nodding in agreement.

“Don’t worry, Dad. The company is stable for now. The finance team is working on negotiations with the bank, and we’ll get through this together.”
Charles had always been the protective umbrella for his family, shielding them from life’s storms.
Now that the umbrella was down, Abigail felt it was her turn to be the sturdy tree, standing tall to safeguard her family.
