Abigail shook her head. “My dad’s in the hospital for a minor surgery.”
She considered Justin a friend now and didn’t want to worry too many people.
Immediately, Justin’s expression turned serious.
“What kind of surgery? Is it serious? How’s Mr. Taylor doing?”
“It’s a heart bypass, but he’s fine now. Thanks for your concern.”
Justin nodded, visibly relieved.
Abigail finished tossing out the trash and turned to head back.
“I should get going. Let’s catch up when we have some free
time.”
Justin waved as she left, not pressing further.
But it wasn’t long before Abigail returned to the room to find Justin standing there, carrying two boxes of milk and a fruit basket.
He was still in his police uniform, which surprised both Charles

“Mr. Taylor, hello! I’m Abigail’s friend. I heard you were unwell, so I wanted to check in on you.”
When they heard he was a friend of Abigail’s, Charles and Laura’s faces lit up with smiles.
“Come in, come in! You didn’t need to bring all this, but we appreciate it!” Charles exclaimed, his smile growing even wider.
Abigail stepped forward to help with the items. “You really didn’t have to go to all this trouble.”
Justin beamed back at her. “Don’t mention it. It’s only right for a younger person to check in on Mr. Taylor when he’s sick.”
Felix helped Abigail bring the things inside.
Amy, however, was the most animated, standing up and walking
over.
“What’s a police officer like you doing here? You must be pretty bored if you’re hanging out in a hospital!”
Justin rubbed the back of his neck, a bit sheepish. “I was called in to handle a civil dispute this morning. Someone got hurt, so I’m just checking on them. I ran into Abigail when she went out to throw away the trash. And it’s not exactly nap time, so I figured I’d stop by.”
Amy rolled her eyes.

Justin added, “By the way, Amy, you still haven’t sent me the bill for that couch and trash can you said I messed up at your
place.”
At this, Laura and Charles perked up, their interest piqued.

Amy hadn’t thought much of it until she looked up and saw Laura and Charles grinning at her and Justin after sending the
bill.
She immediately realized they were misinterpreting the
situation.
“It’s not what you think!”
Laura shook her head, chuckling. “We’re not thinking anything at all.”
“Seriously!” Amy protested, feeling flustered.
She knew the more she explained, the worse it would sound.
Her face flushed red as she struggled to find words.
Justin, oblivious to the awkwardness, was focused on the bill that Amy had sent him, his brow furrowing slightly.
“Wow, these items are quite pricey.”
Frustrated, Amy flopped back down on the couch.

“If you think it’s too expensive, just forget about it. I’m not short on cash, so let’s just drop it. It’s all clean now, and the stuff is still usable.”
Justin quickly shook his head, waving his hands in protest. “I’m not trying to dodge responsibility! It’s just that these prices. are a bit steep–almost half my paycheck for six months. I’m not exactly rolling in dough right now, so I might need to take a few months to pay you back. Would it be okay if I paid in installments?”
For a moment, Amy was speechless.
It was clear that, despite the outrageous prices, Justin wasn’t trying to avoid paying.
In fact, his first thought was to propose a payment plan rather than complain about the cost.
Felix and Abigail watched the exchange quietly, realizing this was a personal matter between the two.
Seeing the tall, muscular Justin discussing finances like this made Amy feel a bit guilty, as if she had been too harsh.
She cleared her throat awkwardly. “Alright, no rush. Take your time paying me back.”
Justin’s face lit up with a smile at her response. “That’s great! I’ll figure out a way to pay you back monthly.”

After a while, Felix checked the time and announced it was getting late. “We should head out. Mr. Taylor just had surgery and needs his rest.”
Seeing this, Justin decided to leave with them.
Abigail walked the three of them downstairs, watching the young friends chat and laugh together.
Charles and Laura felt a wave of relief and happiness wash over them.
“It’s been ages since Abigail has been surrounded by so many friends,” Laura remarked, her voice thick with emotion.
The Taylor family had once arranged a marriage between their daughter Abigail and Anthony for business reasons, but they only had one daughter.
If Abigail hadn’t wanted it, they couldn’t have forced her.

Charles squeezed Laura’s hand.
“Why are you crying? We should be happy for Abigail. We were worried she’d struggle after the divorce, but look at her now, surrounded by friends. She’ll be able to start anew in no time.”
Laura nodded, sharing a smile with him.
Meanwhile, downstairs, Justin was still busy discussing payment plans with Amy, suggesting a twelve–month installment plan.
Amy, feeling overwhelmed, quickened her pace, leaving Justin to scramble to keep up.
Abigail and Felix followed behind, unable to suppress their laughter at the scene unfolding before them.
“I think there’s something brewing between Amy and Justin,” Felix said, her tone light.

“Because Amy is my cousin, and I know her well.”

Yet, she had always kept them at arm’s length.
“Enough about them. Let’s talk about you.”

“Me? I might need to take a week off. Feel free to dock my pay; I wouldn’t blame you.”
Felix playfully tapped her on the head. “What are you talking about? I was going to say that proving Anthony is at fault requires evidence.
“Even if you suspect he’s involved with Michelle, you need something solid to back it up.”
Abigail nodded. “I know. That’s why I said I’d take a week off. Before the court date next week, I need to find that evidence.”
“Abigail, you’re juggling caring for your family and searching for evidence. Do you think you can clone yourself?”
