Chapter 66 Don’t Test My Patience
Abigail ignored him again, but it didn’t take long before Anthony’s message popped up.
[Where are you?]
[Pick up the phone.]
[Abigail, don’t test my patience.]
[What’s going on now? Didn’t you come back yesterday? Why are you making a fuss again today?]
[Don’t make me ask Amy for your address.]
Abigail knew Anthony too well. If she ignored him, he’d just
keep pushing until he drove her crazy.
He might even drag Amy into it again.
The last time that happened, it caused trouble for her. She didn’t want to involve anyone else, especially not Amy.
With that thought, she sat up, and Anthony’s call came through once more. She reluctantly answered it.
“Still playing games, huh?” Anthony’s voice was low and tense. “Get back here. Right now.”
Chapter 66 Don’t Test My Patience
Abigail’s voice was as cold as ice. “I’m not coming back.”
Anthony’s patience was running thin.

“What now? What did I do wrong this time? I’ve been busy lately. I’m not gonna keep soothing you. You’re an adult. Can’t you just deal with things?”
Abigail couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.
“I don’t need you to baby me, and I don’t want you wasting any more time on me. We’ll see each other in court the day after tomorrow.”
Anthony’s voice grew harder. “Oh, so you’re really pushing this, huh? You think because I gave you some face yesterday, you can just walk all over me? Let me make this clear. If you keep acting like this, I’m done.”
Abigail’s voice was unwavering. “Do whatever you want, Anthony. Honestly, I’ve never planned to stay with you. Even going back last night was just to make it easier to separate from
you.”
There was silence on the other end of the phone.
After a long pause, she spoke again, “There’s nothing more to discuss. You know exactly what you’ve done.”
She hung up and set the phone down to charge, turning to settle into bed.

Thoughts of the court hearing the day after tomorrow, with all her evidence in hand and the assets she was about to claim made. her smile to herself as she drifted off to sleep.
Meanwhile, Anthony was having a much harder time.
He sat on the couch, grinding his teeth, his fingers gripping his phone so tightly it might as well have been about to snap in half.
Marcus, sitting beside him, was watching silently, not even daring to breathe too loudly. The look on Anthony’s face was enough to freeze anyone in their tracks.
If Marcus hadn’t been there, Anthony might’ve smashed the phone in a fit of rage.
It took a while for Anthony to calm down. Slowly, his tense features relaxed, but his thoughts were still spinning.
“What did she mean? How could she possibly know about.
Michelle?
There’s no way…
She’s just trying to mess with me. She wants a divorce for the money. That’s all this is.”
He turned his gaze to Marcus, whose nervous eyes gave away just how much his father’s mood was affecting him. Anthony finally realized he’d scared the boy.
He stood up and scooped Marcus into his arms.

“Marcus, how about you sleep with me tonight?”
Marcus nodded quietly, and the two of them headed upstairs together.
“Daddy, are you and Mommy getting a divorce?”

Anthony froze for a moment as he set Marcus down on the bed, his hand pausing briefly as he adjusted the blanket.
“Do you want us to get a divorce?”
Marcus nodded eagerly, his eyes bright. “Of course! And I really want you to be with Michelle. I want her to be my mom.”
Anthony had always known Marcus liked Michelle.
“Why do you like Michelle?”
Marcus thought for a moment. The first thing that came to his mind was simple. Michelle let him eat whatever he wanted, things Abigail wouldn’t allow.
Hamburgers, chocolate, snacks, drinks, and other things he knew were delicious but weren’t allowed at home. So, naturally, he liked Michelle for that.
But then he remembered Michelle had told him not to tell anyone. If he did, she might stop buying him all the treats.
Marcus quickly cleared his throat.

“No reason. I just like Michelle.”

Anthony, thinking Marcus didn’t fully understand the gravity of his words, ruffled his hair affectionately.
It took a while, but Anthony eventually thought Marcus had drifted off. Quietly, he left the room, making sure not to make a sound.
As soon as the door closed, Marcus‘ eyes snapped open.
He turned on the lamp and grabbed a chocolate bar from his backpack. Sitting up, he started eating it carefully, one piece at a time, making sure to keep it hidden.
This was Michelle’s gift to him, a secret stash she told him to hide. Once it was finished, she’d buy him more.
As he chewed, Marcus smiled to himself.
“Michelle buys me yummy stuff. Of course, I like her.”
Meanwhile, Anthony smoked in his own room, his thoughts clouded with his own frustration. Eventually, he went to bed.
The next morning, Abigail had just finished preparing the soup when Felix knocked on her door.
Abigail opened it, and Felix, without any preamble, slipped off his shoes and went straight to the kitchen, pouring himself a bowl of soup.

“Are you a bloodhound, sniffing your way to my kitchen?”

Felix smirked. “Someone’s gotta taste–test for Charles. It’s my duty.”
They had breakfast together, and afterward, Abigail packed the soup in a thermal container.
“Are you off today?” Abigail asked, noting that it was Monday.
Felix raised an eyebrow. “Am I your assistant, or are you mine? Isn’t the boss supposed to ask questions like that?”
“I meant… if you’re working, I can take a cab. I don’t want to keep you from your work.”
Felix rolled his eyes. “All my cases are wrapped up. The only thing I’m focused on now is your second trial tomorrow. So, I’m sticking around to make sure everything goes well. After all, you’re my client.”
Abigail knew it was just an excuse, but at the moment, she didn’t have a good reason to argue.
When they arrived at the hospital, Laura and Charles were chatting, and as soon as they saw Felix, they greeted him warmly.
It felt like just a few days ago, he had hardly known them, but now they were almost as close as family.

It was almost like they were more excited to see him than her.

Abigail opened the soup and handed it to Charles, but before she could even feed him, Felix snatched the bowl away.
He fed Charles the soup, and Laura watched with a proud smile.. It felt like the three of them were the ones who were truly family.
Afterward, Felix even washed the container.
When the nurse came in with the payment receipt, Abigail took it and headed out to pay the bill.
Felix, having finished washing the dishes, saw her leave and followed after her, waving a quick goodbye to Charles and Laura.
As they walked away, Laura smiled so widely.
“These two are such a great match!”
Charles nodded in agreement. “They really are. If only he’d met Abigail earlier.”
Laura shook her head. “Good relationships aren’t about timing. After all the past missteps, our daughter will be able to tell for sure if a man’s feelings for her are real.”
