Chapter 72 Master of Survival
Even Gavin’s tears were brought to the surface by the smoke.
As everything was ready on the table, the three of them stood up and made their way over.
Sunny gently wiped Gavin’s face with a wet wipe.
When Amy caught sight of Justin’s dark face, she couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “Someone might think you were charcoal sellers!”
Gavin playfully smeared the dust from his face onto Sunny’s.
Abigail watched their joyful interaction, and her smile grew wider.
Meanwhile, Felix lounged in a chair, swaying a glass of red wine, eyes closed and seemingly at ease.
“You can’t even get the barbecue going! It’s getting dark; can we get food?” Amy teased, hands on her hips.
Justin wiped his nose, but instead of cleaning it, it only smudged further, which made Amy laugh even harder.
Gavin put down the clip. “This charcoal just won’t light. Maybe we should just call the restaurant owner to whip something up for us or just grab some pre–made food? This is a hassle.”

Gavin had envisioned a relaxing evening at a fancy restaurant where everyone could chat and dine leisurely, which was why he had dressed up in a suit.
But unexpectedly, they’d ended up in the suburbs and even had to fire up the barbecue.
The ladies had no idea about grilling, and eventually, everyone’s gaze turned to Felix, who remained blissfully relaxed with his eyes closed.
Noticing the silence, Felix instinctively sensed that something was off. When he opened his eyes, he found the rest staring at him with a mix of helplessness and anticipation.
“Felix, these two are stupid!” Amy exclaimed. “Come on, show them how it’s done!”
Gavin chimed in, “Yeah, Felix, you’re the expert here. If we keep this up, the firefighters will really have to come!”
Felix took a slow sip of his wine, set the glass down, and stood up. He flipped his sunglasses up onto his head, rolled up his sleeves, and strolled over to the grill, picking up a piece of bark to start a fire.
He placed the burning bark on the charcoal and gently fanned it with a small fan. The charcoal ignited almost immediately.
What Justin and Gavin had struggled to accomplish for ages, Felix handled effortlessly in one swift motion.

Amy and Sunny rushed over, their faces lighting up with admiration.
“Is it really that easy?” Sunny said.
“Felix, you’re incredible!” Amy exclaimed.
Gavin and Justin exchanged glances and rolled their they watched the girls praise Felix.

As the charcoal began to glow, Abigail took out the skewers of meat they had prepared and set them beside Felix.
Unable to bear Sunny looking at another man with such admiration, Gavin pulled her away, leading her to the back to prepare the lights.
Justin, still somewhat of an outsider in this group, was invited by Abigail, so Amy decided to help him feel included by guiding him in chopping fruits.
This left Abigail and Felix alone in the barbecue area.
Noticing everyone else was busy, Abigail took the small fan and joined Felix in fanning the flames.
Felix had great grilling techniques.
As the skewers sizzled with oil, he expertly sprinkled a handful of cumin and chili powder. Its fragrant aroma wafted through
the air.

Abigail couldn’t help but swallow hard; strangely enough, although she didn’t usually crave barbecue, she felt those skewers must be good.
“Are you hungry?” Felix asked, catching the sound of her swallow.
Abigail shook her head. “No, just a bit snacky.”
Felix smiled, “It’ll be ready soon.”
Abigail asked while fanning, “Do you often go camping?”

Felix shook his head. “Have you ever seen a top lawyer with enough free time to go camping often?”
“But how are you so good at grilling?” Abigail pressed, genuinely curious.
Felix flipped a skewer and continued grilling. “Everyone has something they are good at.”
“So, do you have a knack for barbecue?” Abigail asked, half–convinced he had worked in a barbecue joint for years.
Felix chuckled softly, “I’m just good at surviving.”
Abigail blinked, momentarily puzzled by his response. She wasn’t quite sure how grilling was related to survival but didn’t feel compelled to ask further.

Instead, she focused intently on the cooking skewers.

Just a couple of minutes later, as Felix sprinkled chili powder
one last time, the six skewers were finally ready.
The other four finished their tasks and, drawn by the mouthwatering scent, hastened over.
Gavin grabbed the juiciest skewer first. “Looks amazing! Let me be the first to try,” he said, taking a big bite.
His eyes widened in delight, and he nodded vigorously, barely pausing to speak as he quickly took another mouthful.
“It’s fantastic! You have to try it!” Gavin enthusiastically passed the last piece to Sunny, who savored it and sang its praises.

Amy and Justin soon followed suit, quickly grabbing their own skewers. Seeing everyone enjoy the skewers so heartily, Abigail eagerly grabbed one as well.

Felix observed her reaction; when she took a bite, her widened in surprise, and he raised an eyebrow before grabbing a few more skewers to grill.
“This is amazing, Felix!” Amy gushed. “If I had known you were such a great cook, we would’ve gone camping ages ago!”
Justin gave a thumbs–up, adding, “It’s great!”
Gavin handed Sunny another skewer. “Felix is a top lawyer. He can’t do this for us every day. Enjoy it while you can!”

Amy pouted and looked at Abigail. “This is all thanks to you.”
After finishing one skewer, Abigail found herself eagerly anticipating the next batch Felix was grilling.

Amy’s comment snapped her back to reality, and she replied, “Are you having fun? I’ll go grab you all some wine!”
Amy had brought an array of different wines and even treated everyone to an impromptu cocktail show.
Grilling didn’t require all hands on deck, so several people were drawn away by Amy’s bartending skills.
Before long, Amy presented her first cocktail.
The drink was a beautiful blend of pink and red, capped with a heart carved out of an apple, symbolizing love.
Justin stared in awe as he reached out to pick it up for a closer look, only to have Amy swat his hand away.
