A Second Chance After Divorce Chapter 75

A Second Chance After Divorce Chapter 75

Chapter 75 Dirty Lenses

Abigail was never good with alcohol. After watching the

fireworks and catching a bit of a breeze, the buzz hit her even harder

Once the fireworks ended, Felix quickly offered to take her home, mentioning work the next day and that Abigail lived right across the hall

As they reached the entrance to their complex, Abigail suddenly felt her stomach churn. Felix quickly pulled over. She stumbled out of the car and crouched by a patch of bushes, retching. Felix patiently fetched some tissues from the car and handed them to her

Abigail stayed crouched, visibly uncomfortable. Felix leaned down slightly and patted her back, trying to help

Unbeknownst to them, Anthony had just stepped out of his car nearby and witnessed the entire scene. He clenched his fists as he strode over. Not bothering to assess the situation, he shoved Felix by the shoulder

Felix turned his head just in time to see Anthony raising his fist, ready to swing

The punch was inches away when Felix’s reflexes kicked in. He ducked back swiftly, avoiding the blow, and twisted Anthony’s arm into a firm hold

Let me go!Anthony bellowed, ignoring the sharp pain in his shoulder

Felix recognized him now and tightened his grip slightly. He said, Assault is a crime, Mr. Robinson. This area is covered with surveillance cameras. I suggest you think this through.”

Still battling the nausea, Abigail wiped her mouth and stood up unsteadily. When she saw Anthony’s furious expression, she wasn’t the least bit surprised

Abigail had expected Anthony to come looking for her soon. She just hadn’t thought it would be this soon

Before Abigail could say anything, Anthony shot her a piercing look and snarled, Tell your pretty boy to let go of me!”

Felix didn’t take kindly to the insult and tightened his grip even further

Anthony’s face turned pale as the pain in his arm intensified

Abigail knew Anthony’s temper all too well. He clearly had something to say, likely about their divorce earlier that day. If they didn’t clear the air now, her life would be anything but peaceful moving forward

With that in mind, Abigail glanced at Felix. She said, Let him go. I’ll talk to him.”

Felix kept a straight face. His grip showed no sign of loosening

Abigail understood Felix’s concern, so she reassured him

Don’t worry. There are cameras all around. He won’t dare do anything. Besides, we’ll stay close within your sight.”

Felix hesitated for a moment before finally letting go

Anthony grimaced, clutching his sore shoulder

Felix returned to the car, lowering the window. Make it quick. I’ll be waiting here.”

Abigail nodded and took a few steps away. Anthony followed, gritting his teeth, and it was a while before the pain in his arm subsided

Abigail stopped under a streetlight with a clear view of the nearby camera

Anthony leaned against the lamppost, lighting a cigarette. Through the swirls of smoke, he gave Abigail a mocking look. Been drinking, have you?”

Abigail shoved her hands into her pockets and replied calmly, We’re divorced now. What I do in my personal time isn’t your

concern.”

Anthony snorted, Abigail, I never knew you could stoop so low. To get a divorce and squeeze money out of me, you’ve thrown all your dignity out the window. Is there anything you wouldn’t do?”

Abigail thought, He must have figured out that I was the one who reported him to the police.”

Abigail said, If you don’t find it shameless to do those things, why should I feel ashamed for calling you out? Anthony, we’re adults. When you make mistakes, you face the consequences. Isn’t that how it works?”

Anthony’s expression grew colder as he took a sharp drag from his cigarette. Fine, we’re divorced now. But if I’m going down, I want the truth, Abigail. Don’t tell me you hooked up with that pretty boy right after the divorce. You two were messing around behind my back all along, weren’t you? No wonder you stopped coming home lately. You’ve been shacking up with him!”

Looking at Anthony now, Abigail suddenly found him utterly unrecognizable. Even after divorce, some people could still treat each other as family. But others would tear away their carefully crafted facade at the moment of separation. The charm, the maturity, all of it shattered into illusions

For the first time, Abigail truly understood that the world was inherently clean. It was only the dirty lenses through which some people saw that made everything seem filthy. She figured there was no point in explaining anything to someone like that

Abigail sighed faintly, No matter how many times I tell you there’s nothing between him and me, you wouldn’t believe me. I’ve said it too many times, and honestly, I’m tired of repeating myself. At this point, it doesn’t even matter anymore.”

Anthony flicked his cigarette butt to the ground and crushed it

with a sharp twist under his shoe. Abigail, don’t you find yourself disgusting? You’re no innocent angel, so why make such a big deal out of one mistake I made in the heat of the moment?”

Abigail smiled wryly, Do you really think I’m making a big deal out of this? Look at where we are now. Do you still believe that?”

Anthony tightened his jaw as he bit back his words

Abigail continued, I used to think that if there wasn’t a third person between us, there might still be hope for our relationship. But today, I finally understand that what’s broken between us has nothing to do with anyone else.”

Anthony stared at her coldly. What are you trying to say?”

It’s simple,Abigail said evenly. What’s worse than a third person coming between us is that there’s no love left between.

us.”

When they got married, there had been love. Whether their relationship faltered because of external interference or problems between the two of them, fractures in love could. sometimes be mended. But once love itself was gone, there was nothing left to fix

His faint smirk vanished, replaced by an intense glare. Veins bulged on his forehead as he hissed through gritted teeth, What do you mean? Are you trying to say you don’t love me anymore?”

Abigail looked at him, her gaze steady. You stopped loving me

first.”

Anthony said, How could I not love you? I married you, didn’t I? We had Marcus together! Abigail, we’ve been married for years. Love isn’t something we should still be debating about. Don’t be so childish.”

What else should a marriage be about if not love? Should we call it a partnership instead?Abigail’s tone grew sharper. Having Marcus and getting married doesn’t prove you loved me. You were just moved by me at some point. But Anthony, while I can’t seem to find proof of your love, there’s no shortage of evidence that you don’t love me.”

The memory of being left behind in that burning building

The countless birthdays that went unnoticed

The moment he and Michelle crossed the line

Even now, seeing her sick and retching earlier, he hadn’t uttered a single word of concern. All he cared about was his own anger and his own pride

Every single moment screamed that he didn’t love her
