A frantic pounding woke me. I bolted upright,
clutching my knees, terrified. Were they coming
for me? Were Ethan and Chloe sending me
back? I had to run. My weakened legs buckled,
and I fell, a jolt of pain shooting through my
broken leg. “Amelia!” Julian’s voice. He stood
at the door, grocery bags in hand, breathless
and worried. He rushed to help me up. “Are you
okay?” I shook my head, tears welling up from
the pain. Seeing them, Julian’s composure
cracked. “What is it? Where does it hurt?” I

sandwich. The sight of it reminded me how long
