- 14.
I woke in a strange, dimly lit room. A pair of
intense eyes watched me from the shadows.
Hearing me stir, the figure opened the curtains.
“Amelia, how are you feeling? Does it still hurt?
I’ve arranged for surgery on your vocal cords.” I
saw the ocean outside. My heart sank. “Where
am I? I want to go home.” I stumbled out of
bed, but he caught me. “Get away from me!”
Ethan recoiled as if burned, his eyes hurt.
“Amelia, this is our home.” I laughed coldly.
く
“You think you can erase everything by playing
crazy?” He dropped to his knees. “Amelia, I was
wrong. So wrong.” “I didn’t know what they
were doing to you. They said you were just
sick.” I didn’t want to hear his excuses. I wanted
Julian. “I want to go back. I want to go back to
Julian.” Ethan’s voice was desperate. “No!
Amelia, look at me. It’s your Ethan. We can
start over. I’ll make it up to you!” He reached
out. I slapped his hand away, looking down at him. Despite his disheveled state, his arrogance
remained. I should have known. We were from
different worlds. “Make it up to me?” I sat back on the bed, swinging my legs, my voice
chillingly cruel. “Then die.” His eyes widened in disbelief. I continued, “You want to make it up to me? Our child is dead. Why don’t you die?” Ethan’s head drooped. “Amelia, I will. But not yet. I need to make everyone who hurt you disappear first.” I ignored the implication. “Fine. Then leave.” I moved towards the window. My jump had clearly traumatized him. The windows were sealed shut. I bided my time. When he
brought me water, I seized my chance. I
smashed the glass on the floor, picking up a shard. Ignoring the cut on my hand, I held it to my throat. “Don’t come any closer! I want to see Julian, or I’ll die!” “Ethan, you know I’ll do it.” Ethan’s face paled. He finally realized he’d lost control. He gestured to the guards. His voice was a dry rasp. “I’ve sent a helicopter for
him. He’ll be here soon.”
