On the helicopter, held tight in Julian’s arms, I
finally felt safe. Back at the apartment, Julian,
still shaken, made a call. Two rows of
bodyguards appeared outside. My seemingly
ordinary senior clearly wasn’t. “I’m the
illegitimate son of the Liang family,” he
explained calmly. “These are my brother’s men.
I’m the only one who doesn’t want his fortune,
so he’s protective of me.” He dismissed his
family drama with a shrug. “Amelia, I’ll protect
you, even if it costs me my life.” Warmth
<
spread through me. I cupped his face, smiling.
“Is that your way of playing the pity card?” He blinked. “Is it working?” “It is.” I touched the
dandelion pin. “What about that surprise you
mentioned?” His eyes lit up, like an excited puppy. “You remember?” “Of course. Don’t tell me you’ve changed your mind.” He chuckled,
ruffled my hair, and produced a blue velvet box.
Kneeling, he asked, “Amelia, will you let me be
your medicine, forever?” Tears welled up. I
nodded. “Yes.” Julian’s smile was unguarded,
childlike. He swept me into his arms, spinning
me around. The bodyguards, exchanging
awkward glances, began to clap. The scene
was almost comical. Blushing, I asked him to
put me down. He sheepishly obliged, then,
under their teasing gazes, pulled me close
again.
