Chapter 8
We had a great time eating, and Adrian and the others had a great time as well.
We had almost finished eating, and just as we got up to leave, Victor answered a phone call.
One of his friends happened to come to Seaside Restaurant for dinner and called Victor over to gather.
Angela and I had to stay in the private room to wait for Victor.
Fortunately, the private room Victor chose had a projector and a sofa. Angela and I were lounging on the sofa, randomly selecting a romantic drama to watch.
While I was engrossed in watching the movie, my phone also rang.
The lights were a bit dim, and I didn’t pay attention to the caller before answering.
Adrian’s anxious voice came over the phone. “Rachel, where have you been? We were going to pay the bill, but you left. What do you mean?”
His words directly confused me. Did he not even notice that I never went to his birthday party? How could he still ask such shameless words?
I said, “Adrian, I didn’t even go to your birthday party. Why should I pay the bill?”
“Rachel, I don’t want to talk nonsense with you. You tell her,” said Adrian.
The phone seemed to have been answered by someone else, and it was a strange female voice. “Ms. Johnson, I am Brenda Nelson. Mr. Sinclair insisted that you organized this birthday banquet for him, refused to pay the bill, and even asked you to pay.
“Although you did ask me to arrange a birthday banquet for him a few years ago, I did not receive any notification from you this year, so I dare not decide on my own.”
I remembered Brenda, the manager of Seaside Restaurant.
When Rachel hosted Adrian’s birthday party before, she always asked Brenda for help, which was why Brenda remembered Adrian.
Seaside Restaurant had strict rules. Although it was our restaurant, I still needed to pay. Otherwise, it would not be easy to settle the accounts.
So Rachel had paid for Adrian’s birthday party with her money.
Adrian probably thought it was my family’s restaurant, so I didn’t have to pay, which was why he had shamelessly brought the classmates here.
He anticipated that I wouldn’t dare ask him for money, but I wouldn’t follow his wishes.
“Open the loudspeaker,” I said.
“Okay,” said Brenda.
I cleared my throat. “Adrian initiated this birthday banquet and brought you to Seaside Restaurant, not me. So, for all your expenses at Seaside Restaurant today, either Adrian will bear the cost alone, or all of you will share it equally. Anyway, I won’t.”
A male student said, “What? Didn’t Adrian say Rachel was treating us? How did he bring us here himself?”
A female student asked, “Did he make a mistake? We don’t have any money. If he doesn’t have money, don’t hold a birthday party. Why does he want us to pay? No way.”

Adrian was also angry. “Rachel, I’ll ask you one last time. Are you coming to pay or not?”
I said, “I’ll say it for the last time, too. Get the hell away from me.”

I hung up the phone, but another call soon came in.
I hung up again. But another phone call came in, so I continued to hang up. Finally, I turned off my phone directly.
After Victor returned from his friend’s place, we went home.
Later, I heard that Adrian and his group were all detained at the restaurant.
Adrian’s birthday party cost almost half a million dollars or so, and it was only about ten thousand dollars a person when divided equally
among the forty or so people, but some people just wouldn’t pay.
They had already suffered once at Mary’s birthday banquet last time, and they all refused to pay this time.
What’s more, they argued with Adrian on the spot. They had already given Adrian a gift, so there was no way they would share the birthday banquet equally.
In the end, Adrian paid one hundred thousand dollars, and the rest of the money was still paid equally by the class.
They were furious. Some called their families, and some took a taxi, one by one all going home.

I didn’t know how Adrian managed to come up with one hundred thousand dollars. One hundred thousand dollars was just a tiny amount of money for Adrian before, but now…
