Chapter 9
I went to school on Monday to pack up my school stuff and go to the principal’s office to check in for suspension.
Just as I got to my classroom, I was yanked and pulled to the balcony by Adrian.
For the first time, he lowered his stance and looked at me with red, swollen eyes. “Rachel, I’ve broken up with Mary. I don’t like you right now, but I’m going to try to like you. I…” He seemed to be making a tough decision.
Gritting his teeth, he finally closed his eyes and said, “I agree to be your boyfriend.”
I said, “What?” Was he still not awake?
I continued, “When did I ask you to be my boyfriend? Do you deserve to be my boyfriend?
“You’re not good–looking, not in shape, and you don’t have any money. What makes you think I would like you?”
My face was full of mockery, and the words I said were even more cruel.
Adrian was blushing with shame. “Rachel, I’ve agreed to be your boyfriend. Why are you still not satisfied? What exactly do you want from me?”
I shrugged. “I told you I don’t like you anymore. Why don’t you believe me?
“You’re not like this now because you’ve run out of money and are starting to miss those days when I spent money on you, are you?”
I feigned surprise and opened my mouth wide. “What? Adrian, how could you be such a person?”
Adrian was annoyed that I had revealed his thoughts. “Rachel, what are you babbling about? How could I possibly be that kind of person?”
I said, “That’s good. All right. If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving.”
I turned to leave, only to be pulled back by Adrian.
He quivered his lips as he wanted to say something.
I asked, “What else do you want?”
“Can you get your family’s restaurant to give me back the hundred thousand dollars?” He looked at me with red eyes. “I really need that money.”
I said outright, “Sorry, that’s out of my hands.”
After handling everything, I said goodbye to my class.
They all expressed surprise that I was leaving the country so suddenly since I hadn’t said anything about it before.
The look on Adrian’s face was particularly wonderful. First, he was surprised, then he looked incredulous. Finally, his eyes turned red.
“Rachel, do you really want to go abroad?” asked Adrian.
I nodded my head.
Adrian continued, “Why? Because I’m with Mary? I told you. We’re broken up.”
I smiled, “Adrian, don’t take yourself so seriously, okay? Where can’t you use that confidence but on me?”
I took my last class. At the end of the school day, I packed my bag to leave when Adrian pulled me back.
He said, “Rachel, if I say I can’t part with you, will you stay for me?”
I stared at him seriously. “I’m going to state this one last time. I used to like you, and I used to chase you around a lot. But you kept trampling my fondness on the ground. You enjoyed the pleasure that money brought you while you hated me, who provided you with it.
“Adrian, I don’t like you anymore, and whoever you’re with has nothing to do with me. So, can you please stop flattering yourself from now on?”
Adrian looked at me, his eyes a little dull. It was like he suddenly realized at that moment that I really didn’t like him anymore.
I turned to look at Mary, who wanted to cry behind him, and kindly reminded him, “Your girlfriend heard you behind you. You should say less maniacal things in the future.”
Adrian turned pale and turned to coax Mary.
I just thought it was funny.
I was already an adult. I wouldn’t accept this kind of childish relationship full of lies and calculations.
Early Tuesday morning, I stepped on the plane to Amerece.
I had a wonderful time studying abroad. I met like–minded friends and contacted different circles of people and things with the support and help of my parents. In addition, I studied hard to grow up to be a powerful woman who could handle the world alone.
As for my shady history that I had discarded, I didn’t care.
