- 9.
We had tests in our extracurriculars every so
often.
Ashley didn’t train, so she bombed everything.
My parents‘ faces turned dark.
They stared at Ashley.
They were shocked.
I had been able to choreograph my own
dances after only training for a few weeks.
I performed right after her.
When I finished, everyone applauded.
People were jealous.
They complimented my parents.
“Emily’s still amazing!”
My parents relaxed.
They looked at me.
L
I gave them a small smile.
I got first place in dance.
Ashley got last.
She didn’t care about the score, but my
parents were furious.
They were about to pull her aside, but I
stopped them.
I shook my head.
“She won’t listen to you.”
My parents looked confused.
“How do you know?”
I sighed and showed them the video of Ashley
talking trash.
Ashley’s mean face filled the screen.
My parents went silent.
After a few minutes, my mom sighed.
“I forgot she’s older now. She’s set in her
ways. We can’t change her.”
My dad sighed.
His face was serious.
L
He didn’t say anything, but I knew what he
meant.
Ashley wasn’t going to inherit the company.
