After being reborn, I will no longer be the scapegoat for my evil sister.
Chapter 1
Working the night shift, I said no to helping
my stepsister with one of her patients.
I’d seen enough. Just watched a seven–year- old kid die from a bad reaction to the wrong
IV drip.
Last time, it was me who hung that IV. The
family went ballistic. They stormed the
nurse’s station, beat me black and blue.
“You! You poisoned my grandson with the
wrong medicine!”
But it was just glucose! It shouldn’t have hurt
く
Everything got blurry. Someone called the
cops, and I thought I was saved.
But the cop, who was practically my brother,
shoved me to the floor.
“Your fingerprints are all over the IV bag.
You’re a murderer.”
Then Liam, my childhood best friend and the
medical examiner, pulled out the autopsy
report, pointing the finger.
“Time of death, around five a.m. That’s when
you were administering the IV.”
I couldn’t defend myself. The family beat me
to death.
Г
“If you say yes, I’m out of here.”
“My stomach is killing me. I need to go home,
can you give the drip to the kid in 602 at 5:00
a.m.?”
Last time, I helped Amanda. I went to the
kid’s bedside.
But something felt off as soon as I got to his
room.
He was buried under the covers. His face
looked pale in the moonlight.
Before I could check him, Amanda called
again.
“Did you finish the drip?”
I frowned. “He’s out cold, might not be feeling
well, I think I should have a look at him first.”
Amanda exploded over the phone.
“He was cranky all day, just finally crashed.
Don’t wake him up, okay?”
Something felt off, but it was hard to put my
finger on it.
“Where are his parents? Shouldn’t someone
be here with him?”
“Just change the IV bag, okay? Why make a
big fuss and wake him up?”
I checked the label on the fluid. Just glucose,
for energy. I relaxed a little.
<
I thought Chris and Liam would help me find
the truth.
Instead, Chris, the cop, pointed the finger.
“Naomi’s fingerprints are all over the IV bag.
No doubt about it.”
Liam shoved the autopsy report in my face.
“Death happened right after you hung the IV.
What else do you have to say?”
I was cornered. The family blocked the police
station doors, and I was beaten to death
while Chris and Liam watched.
Even as I died, I couldn’t get it. Why would
Chris, and my best friend do this to me?
L
“Sorry, no can do. I just came back from the
ER and I am dead on my feet, besides, I have
other patients I have to take care of.”
Amanda turned around, her face red with
anger.
“Seriously? You can’t just take a minute? You
always have to make things so difficult.”
Chris lost it over the phone.
“Naomi, just do her the favor! I thought you
liked helping people.”
I hung up and walked away.
Amanda rolled her eyes and grumbled.
“I know Leouldn’t count on you !!
Г
“I knew I couldn’t count on you.”
Last time, I helped her. All it got me was
being thrown under the bus.
he starts asking around the nurse’s station
for help.
She was always bossy, always getting people
to cover for her. So no one wanted anything
to do with her.
So she stopped complaining about her
stomach and marched off to the restroom.
Why was she so desperate to get someone to
cover her round? Had something happened to
Cody already?
After Amanda loft Iwent to room 602
く
Cody looked pale under the moonlight.
I touched his forehead, and I froze.
He was ice–cold, rigor mortis had already set
- in. He’d been dead at least an hour.
Amanda had given him the IV at one a.m.
Had she realized she killed him and needed
Someone to take the blame?
A shiver ran down my spine.
My first reaction was to tell someone.
I took a step, then stopped.
I don’t even have my own patients in that
room. If I reported this, would Amanda try to
L
Absolutely.
After making sure no one was watching, I
went to the nurse’s station.
I took a seat and tried to keep my cool.
Then it hit me.
If he died around one a.m., why did Liam’s
autopsy report say his time of death was five
or six?
He was the golden boy of forensic science.
He can find a person’s death time with one
hour.
Why would Liam make such a big mistake?
My head started to hurt, I couldn’t make
<
Sense UI IL.
I’ve known Liam all my life.
For years, he was always looking out for me,
so why would he do this to me?
The whole night I tried to keep busy, ignoring
Amanda.
She paced around the nurse’s station.
As the clock got close to five, I could see her
sitting down with the medical equipment, not
even trying to give the drip.
I waited for the right moment. When everyone
was out of the nurse’s station, I hid.
Before long, room 602 echoed with the same
cries from the first time
<
“My precious grandson! Wake up! Don’t scare
Grandma like this.”
“Son, open your eyes! What’s wrong, Cody?”
“My Cody! The doctor said you could leave
soon. How could this happen to my son?”
Then the family stormed the nurse’s station.
Cody’s dad asked who the night nurse was
and who gave the IV.
Amanda was in the corner, looking for me.
The other nurses pointed to Amanda, saying,
“Amanda was in charge of him.”
Before Amanda could say anything, Cody’s
<
dad punched her in the face.
Amanda stumbled. Then Cody’s mom kicked
her in the stomach.
With no escape, Amanda collapsed on the
ground, getting her hair pulled by Cody’s
grandma.
“You killed my grandson! You did this to me!”
“I hope you die, harming ghost! I will make
you pay with your life!”
Amanda was covered in blood, I went to her,
and she pointed at me.
“I am on shift! But Naomi did the IV, and gave
the wrong medicine.”
