Chapter 6
Harriet’s POV
Without a word, Vernon walked over to me, then bent down in a deep bow.
“Miss Harriet,” he greeted me, his tone humble and full of respect.
The people he brought with him followed suit, bowing just as deeply.
I smiled lightly but didn’t respond.
Watching the scene unfold, the entire room fell silent, stunned. No one could believe what they were seeing.
Astrid rushed forward, her confusion written all over her face. “Vernon, what are you-?”
But quickly before she completed her

question, Vernon slapped her across the face
without hesitation. His glare was cold and filled with contempt.
“Do you think I came here today to help you?” he snapped. “I only just found out you dared to go after Miss Harriet‘ s man. I came here specifically to deal with you!”
“What?” Astrid clutched her face, her oily skin now red with the imprint of his hand. Her expression was a mix of disbelief and fear.
“Have you never heard of the Armstrong family from Washington?” Vernon demanded.
Astrid’s face turned deathly pale. She stammered, “Y–you mean… Harriet is part of that family?”

“She’s not just part of it. She’s their sole
heir,” Vernon said coldly.
Whispers rippled through the crowd.
“The Armstrong family? Are they that powerful?”
“Of course! Seven members in three generations have held cabinet positions!”
“Wait, what’s wrong with Damian? With a girlfriend like that, how did he let Astrid blackmail him?”
The murmurs grew louder, and Damian‘ s expression darkened. He stared at me, his gaze filled with a mixture of disbelief and emotion. His eyes glistened, as though on the verge of tears.
I sighed, shaking my head. “How many

times have I told you how influential my family is? You never believed me! I figured it didn’t matter much, so I didn’t bother pushing it. I thought you’d find out eventually after we got married. Who would’ve thought you’d end up risking everything to protect me, almost letting a pig trample on you?”
Damian blinked, still struggling to process everything.
Taking his hand, I chuckled. “Think about it. You‘ re handsome, come from a good family, and yet no one dared to pursue you during four years of college. Doesn‘ t that seem strange?”
“You planned that?” he asked, glancing at Vernon in disbelief. “But he just said you

kept me hidden well.”
“They all knew who you were,” I replied. “But without my permission, no one would dare approach you. And as for those who wanted to, my people took care of them before they got close,” I explained.
Seeing him confused, I enlightened, “The house we live in may have been bought by you, but the maids, the drivers, the gardeners, and even the chef–they’re all my bodyguards. At school, the janitors, my roommates, even your dormmates–they‘ ve been with me since childhood, trained by my family to stay by my side.”
I let out a small sigh. “I didn’t tell
you the truth, partly because you wouldn’t believe me, but also because I didn’t want to

pressure you. I should‘ ve told you sooner, though. Then you wouldn’t have had to deal with threats like this.’

Honestly, I’d never taken the Harris family seriously. I didn’t even bother looking into them in detail. If I had, someone like Astrid wouldn’t have had the chance to cause trouble.
All she wanted was to use Damian to restore her declining family‘ s status.
For the Armstrong family, that would‘ ve taken just a word.
But now, it was time to deal with Astrid.
“Astrid,” I said with a smile, “you really thought you were untouchable, didn’t you?”
