Dad stopped coming to see me.
He locked himself in his house.
Hugging Mom’s photo, not eating, not
drinking.
Grandma came to see me.
Begging me to see Dad give him some bone
L
But, when I saw Grandma, I remembered.
She told Mom, “Get a divorce.”
“She’s better than you for Jason.”
Mom’s eyes were red.
I didn’t like Grandma.
So I shook my head, saying, “I won’t go.”
Grandma got mad. “You’re just like your
mom!”
I pushed her out. “Don’t talk about my mom!”
“My mom is the best mom!”
く
That day, Dad tried to kill himself.
Someone saved him.
I didn’t see him.
Later, he started to see me.
Looking at me, saying.
“Sarah, she’s just like you, are you happy?”
“Sarah, will you forgive me?”
“It’s okay, I won’t ask anymore.”
I got into middle school.
I learned more.
<
I know what death is.
I also knew who was wrong.
I didn’t want Dad.
He tried to see me.
He hid in corners, not coming to me.
He was older.
His hair was white, he didn’t have strength.
And I, didn’t look at him.
I heard he was never married.
He took Mom’s photo with him.
L
When I was 18, he gave me a gift.
I threw it out.
When I graduated.
He stood outside of school.
He stood there, for two days.
He would always come to see me.
Hiding, scared to look at me.
He was older.
He stood there, for two days.
He was old, and never was happy, or proud.
L
I heard he never got married.
He took Mom’s picture, everywhere.
Years later, I got a call.
His voice was weak.
“Lily, has your mom forgiven me?”
I shook my head, saying, “No.”
“She will never forgive you.”
Someone in the phone yelled, “He’s not
breathing! Help!”
I knew.
Ho 2
<
I knew.
He was gone.
I looked at my desk.
My mom was looking at me.
I lied.
My mom did forgive him.
Not because he loved her.
Because my mom,
Was the best mom.
