After my parents pretending to be
poor favored the fake young master, I don’t want them anymore
Chapter 1
To pay for my dad’s medical bills, I was stuck
delivering pizza on New Year’s Eve.
The wind was brutal.
When I handed the pizza to a customer who
looked about my age, he deliberately knocked
the cake off the box.
“Are you kidding me? You know this cake was
custom–made for me, right?” he sneered.
Before I could even argue, I heard familiar
voices coming from inside the mansion.
It was my parents!

My dad, who’s always been so frugal, was
suddenly acting all high and mighty.
“It’s just a cake, Brian. My son deserves the
best. I’ll buy you another one. In fact, I’ll give
you this house as a reward for being so
awesome.”
My mom, usually in thrift store finds, was
decked out in designer clothes.
She gently squeezed Brian’s hand.
“My baby’s birthday can’t be ruined by
something like this. Mom will get you that
watch you wanted, alright? Don’t be upset.”
Brian then threw the smashed cake at me.
“Here, doggy. Consider it a treat.”

I was about to say something when my phone
buzzed with a negative review notification.

Looking at my hands, cracked and red from the
cold, and my shoes with holes in the soles, I
felt… numb.
Brian’s bad review cost me big time.
I had to reimburse him for that ridiculous cake.
That was like three hundred deliveries worth of
work!
But I couldn’t even focus on that right now.
The hallway in that place was so warm.
Why did I feel so cold?
The door swung open again.
Brian tossed a gold chain at me.
I instantly recognized it.

It was the necklace I’d bought for my mom’s
birthday.
Brian smirked.
“Mom said she didn’t have anywhere to put this
thing. Figured you needed a dog collar. Bark for
me.”
He crossed his arms, laughing.
When I stayed silent, he kept going.
“Mommy and daddy got rid of you.”
I’d had enough.
I balled my fists and charged at him.
The door slammed shut in my face.
I wasn’t going to go down like this.

I pounded on the door, hoping my parents
would hear me.
Instead, a couple of beefy security guards
showed up.

“Those people inside are my parents! You can’t
kick me out.”
The guards gave me a disgusted look.
“This is a gated community, kid. Houses start at
a million bucks. You ain’t worth eight hundred,
head home and dream about it.”
They all laughed.
One of the guards held out a taser.
“I’d get moving if I were you. You’re not
welcome here.”
I grabbed the broken necklace and ran.

The wind cut right through my thin delivery
jacket.
Up ahead, someone fell.
I dove out of the way, trying not to hit them,
and landed hard.
The cake splattered all over my face.
Lying there, staring up at the falling snow, I
couldn’t hold back the tears any longer.
My phone rang.
It was the custom ringtone I’d set for my
parents.
I wanted to be sure I’d never miss a call from
them.
My mom sounded frantic.
