“We’ve raised Brian since he was a kid. We
gave him everything. Why would he be jealous of Mikey, who has nothing?”
“Yeah, we catered to his every whim. And we
were so hard on Mikey…”
The guilt started to creep in.
Mom’s expression hardened.
They jumped in the car and drove to Brian’s mansion.
Brian was on his phone, bragging to his friends.
“I told you guys, Mikey’s a nobody. He’s not
even as important as my dog.”
Mom burst in and slapped the phone out of his
hand.

“Who said you could talk about my son like
that? He’s my son, and don’t you forget it.”
Dad was furious.
He kicked Brian.
“We fed you, we clothed you, and this is how
you repay us? Mikey never asks for anything.
Why do you have to be such a jerk?”
Brian, lying on the floor, couldn’t believe his
parents were yelling at him for the sake of their
son.
“It’s not like that! Mikey was provoking me. He
said I was unlucky, and that’s why I get
abandoned. I was just venting.”
Mom grabbed Brian’s hair and shoved his face
into the cake.
She was shaking with rage.

“Was that Mikey delivering the pizza that day?
Did you set that up?”
Brian’s carefully planned scheme had fallen
apart.
“Mom, that was your birthday cake! I had no
idea he was delivering it! I didn’t even know he
existed back then.”
Brian tried to deny it, but Mom pulled out a
stack of papers from her purse.
It detailed everything Brian had done.
“You paid the other delivery guys to give Mikey
the order. You ruined the cake so we’d get mad
at him. It was all you.”
“We gave you everything you ever wanted! How
could you do this to my son?”
Brian knew he was busted.
<
He got on his knees and started begging.
“I did it because I love you! I was afraid you’d
leave me. He’s so dumb. He’s going to ruin our family. I deserve to be your heir.”
“You always said I was your only son! It doesn’t matter, you’re still in my family. That dog isn’t important.”
Dad snapped.
He punched Brian in the face.
“Who are you calling a dog? Mikey’s our baby. You’re the guard dog!”
Brian couldn’t believe his loving parents were turning on him.
“No, no, we’re a family! Mikey’s the one who’s
extra.”
<
Mom looked at him like he was dirt under her
shoe.
“Mikey means so much, and you’re nothing to us. I did it for you to get a transplant and have
a family, you have to do as I say.”
Brian went pale.
He sat on the floor, muttering to himself.
“No, it’s not true! You love me! Why else would
you send me to college? Why would you buy me
a house and a car?”
Dad scoffed and pulled out the deed to the
house.
It was in my name.
Brian rubbed his eyes.
“That’s my name! How did it change?”

Dad’s voice was like ice.
“Mikey’s our only son. Why would I give my
property to you. Do I look like a fool?”
Brian looked confused.
“But you never said anything when people
thought I was your son! You took me to events
with you!”
Mom leaned in and whispered in Brian’s ear.
“That way, you can protect your son if anything
goes wrong.”
“You’re just a puppet.”
Brian’s face crumpled.
He shook his head.
“You can’t do this to me!”

“You broke Mikey’s heart. Now get out of our
lives, we don’t want to see you again.”
Brian tried to fight off the security guards, but
he couldn’t get away.
He got down on his knees.
“Don’t throw me out! I’ll be your dog! Woof
woof! See how well I can bark? Mikey can boss
me around, I don’t care. Just don’t kick me out.”
My parents looked at him with disgust.
“I can’t stand you, get out of my house.”
Brian kept squirming and “woofing“, hoping to
get some sympathy, but my parents didn’t even
look at him.
My parents were using connections to find
people that knew me.

My parents wanted me to have a better life.
The people that knew me took a look at my
parents.
“Are you really related to Mikey?”
