Chapter 8
There’s no way I have forgotten to take birth control pill. Meanwhile Kathy wanted to use a baby to marry into the Miles Family, I had no such plan!
Marrying into a wealthy family resorting to such method? Even with my smarts, I knew I wouldn’t stand a chance.
Feeling anxious, I hurried to the hospital and registered for a gynecology appointment.
But just after my blood was drawn, I spotted Chester‘ s figure in the hallway.
I quickly lowered my head, put on a mask and tried to slip away unnoticed. Unfortunately, I didn’t get far before his bodyguards blocked my path..
I recognized them immediately–they were the ones who had dragged Kathy into the neighboring room that night.

My throat tightened and I swallowed. nervously, my fingers curling in fear.
My mind raced, weighing my chances of using what I knew about them to threaten Chester.
Before I could act, I heard a familiar voice. -Franklin‘ s.
“Looks like her. It really does.”
“You’ve got a sharp eye, Franklin. Took me two years to figure it out.”
“You‘ re not secretly staring at a photo of my sister every day, are you?”
Before I could respond, Franklin greeted me with a smile.
“Sarah, fancy meeting you here.”
Gone was the stern, cold expression he usually wore at the office. Instead, his smile was warm and inviting, like a spring breeze.
I, however, didn’t dare meet his gaze.

“Hello, Mr. Chandler. What a coincidence… I wasn’t feeling well and came for a checkup.”
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my
way.”
I turned to run, but someone grabbed my wrist from behind.
Chester’s low voice rang right next to me, “Leaving so quickly? Feeling guilty, Miss Holmes?”
At this point, I could only gamble that, under the influence of the drug that night, he hadn’t clearly remembered my face.
Clenching my teeth, I turned around, forcing a smile onto my face. “Mr. Miles, you must be joking. What would I have to feel guilty about? I don‘ t even know you…”
A playful smirk tugged at the corners of his lips as he casually picked up my blood test form and glanced at it.

“Stomach issues?”
I nodded quickly.
“Then why are you getting tested for pregnancy?”
The blood drained from my face, leaving me pale as a sheet. Stammering, I tried to explain, “I–I must have registered for the wrong department. Thank you, Mr. Miles, for pointing it out. I’ll go switch to gastroenterology right now.”
Before I could move, Franklin raised an eyebrow and cut in. “What are you doing, Chester? You‘ re scaring Sarah.”
“That’s another offense. Should I take you to kneel before my parents and face family discipline?”
I didn’t really understand Franklin’s words, but I knew one thing: he was my only way out of this mess.
Carefully, I shuffled behind Franklin,
seeking refuge. I didn’t notice the warmth.

As if reading my thoughts, he gently patted my head with a doting expression. “Girls. should learn to love themselves more. You don’t have to hide anymore–buy whatever yo want from now on.”
Before I could fully process his words, he spoke again. “Chester isn’t as cold as he seems on the surface. He’s actually a good person. What do you think?”
That one sentence yanked me back to the absurd events of ‘that‘ night.
Remembering the heat radiating from his body, my ears quickly turned crimson.
