Chapter 26
moment’s notice.
Silence enveloped the room as she stared at the floor, listening intently, but the man across from her remained still, offering no response. Reluctantly, she lifted her head and found Lennox with his hands buried In his pockets, his expression dark and unreadable, radiating an unsettling chill.
The atmosphere grew frigid, and Serena swallowed hard, a shiver running down her spine. Just as she was about to bolt, his emotionless voice sliced through the stillness. “Want to terminate the contract?”
She nodded vigorously.
“Fine.”
Why did that sound anything but fine? Tension gripped her as she tightened her hold on her bag.
Lennox picked up the contract, his expression impassive as he skimmed over each clause, pausing only at the penalty fee, where a cold smile flickered across his face. Tossing the document back to her, he said, “Since you’re so eager to leave Starlight Media, I won’t force you to stay. You can terminate the contract, of course, but…”
“But what?” Serena pressed, anxiety creeping into her voice.
“Since the moment you signed, this contract has been legally binding. If you insist on leaving, it’s simple–just pay the penalty fee. When you have a hundred million dollars ready, we can discuss this further.”
Serena’s eyebrows shot up in anger. What kind of solution was that? If she had a hundred million dollars, she wouldn’t need to work with any media company.
Her temper flared as she slammed her hand on the table. “Lennox, don’t push it too far!”
“Miss Stone, the contract is written in black and white. I didn’t force you to sign it. Now, you’re the one wanting to break it. So, tell me, how am I the unreasonable one?” Lennox’s voice remained cold, his gaze Steady as he met her fiery glare. “Now, Miss Stone, you have two choices: either pay the hundred million in damages, and I’ll agree to your request, or stay here at Starlight Media. We’ll promote you, and the second female lead role in ‘Legacy of Ash‘ will be yours.”
“What if I don’t choose either?” she challenged.
“Then, I’m afraid we’ll have to settle this in court.” Lennox shrugged, feigning helplessness.
B*stard!
Serena’s anger simmered, but she had no retort. It was her fault for signing without fully understanding, and in court, she would undoubtedly be at a disadvantage.
She glared daggers at him, wishing nothing more than to lunge at him and sink her teeth into him. “What is it that you want?”
“For you to stay quietly at Starlight Media.” Lennox leaned forward, bracing his hands on the couch as he drew closer, observing the fire in her eyes. He chuckled softly, pinching her cheek playfully. “Behave yourself, or you’re the one who’s going to suffer.”
