Chapter 30
She was in no position to challenge Shawn. Even if she were to die again, there was no way to expose his
crimes.
And…
Images of Silas and Sylvie surfaced in her mind. She had already lost one child; she could not afford to lose them as well.
Lowering her gaze, she fought to keep her emotions in check. As she brushed past Shawn and Lorelai, she couldn’t help but cast a cold glance their way.
Just as she turned to leave, Shawn blocked her path.
“Miss, may I ask what your relationship is with Serena?”
Serena lifted her head sharply, her voice icy. ‘Don’t block the way. Get lost.”
Shawn’s brow furrowed deeply in response, confusion mingling with his composure.
At twenty–nine, Shawn exuded a calm demeanor and a steady presence. Yet, he bore no resemblance to the gentle man she once remembered. Clearly, it was all an act. He would go to any lengths to save Lorelai, He had forced himself to alter his personality to suit her, even going so far as to sleep with her to ensure her
pregnancy.
What thoughts occupied his mind during those moments? Was it resentment or disgust that lingered?
Serena couldn’t help but scoff at the thought.
“Miss, please speak with more civility,” Shawn replied, his voice icy as he glared at her.
In response, Serena offered a mocking smile. She owed politeness to many, but to these two wretches? Absolutely not..
She maneuvered around Shawn, her expression stony as she pressed forward.
Suddenly, a tight grip clamped around her wrist.
In a fit of fury, she jerked away from Shawn, her voice shrill with panic. “Don’t touch me!” His mere touch repulsed her.
Shawn stumbled back, nearly losing his balance. Lorelai rushed to steady him, her appearance bearing an uncanny resemblance to Serena, though she looked much frailer and paler.
Lorelai glanced at the almost deranged Serena, then shook her head at Shawn. Lowering her voice, she warned him, “Shawn, don’t hold her back. I think she isn’t quite right mentally…”
