Chapter 24
Sienna felt really nervous as she spoke. She needed a job, and this opportunity had come out of nowhere. Without thinking twice, she jumped right in.
“Is that for real?” Kevin looked at her, unsure.
Sienna nodded quickly. “Yes, I can’t fake dancing skills, can I?”
Time was tight, and Kevin glanced at his watch and said, “Alright you’ve got just thirty minutes. You need to learn a new dance for the shoot. Any issues with that?”
“No problem. I just need to go through it twice, and I’ll be ready Sienna said confidently.
“Oh!” Kevin chuckled, thinking she might be overconfident. “Alright then, let’s see what you’ve got. If you can’t get it in two tries, just leave.”
“Got it,” Sienna replied, focused.
“Follow me.” Kevin said, guiding her towards the group of dancers. “Here she is, folks. I need you to run through the routine twice for her. After that, I’ll see how she does.”
“Okay, Mr. Sullivan.” The group was made up of temporary dancers. Sienna joined them, and after just one practice, she was ready to go.
The dance was simple–just a basic group routine. For a TV background gig, Sienna’s dancing was more than adequate. Kevin observed from the side, and after two rounds, he clapped and cheered, “Great. You danced really well. You’re in.”
“Thank you, Mr. Sullivan,” Sienna smiled.
Kevin clapped his hands. “Get her dressed and made up. We’re about to start filming. Then he rushed off to find the director and updated him on the situation.
Once Sienna was all set, filming began. Everything went smoothly, but due to some issues with the lead actor, they had to repeat the dance several times.
After filming, the production assistant came around to pay the stand–in dancers.
“Thank you,” Sienna said with a smile, happily accepting her payment–300 dollars. Her eyes lit up: t expected.
was more than she
“Once you’ve got your pay, you’re free to go,” the assistant said. The rest of the shoot wouldn’t involve them.
Sienna pocketed the cash, feeling pretty good about her extra earnings. But just as she was about to leave, someone eaited out to her. She turned and saw Kevin rushing toward her. “Mr. Sullivan?”
“Thank goodness I caught you,‘ Kevin said, slightly out of breath

Sienna was confused. “Is there need?”
“Yeah Kevin took a moment to catch his breath, then smiled. “I think your dancing was really impressive.”
“Thanks, you’re too kind,” Sienna replied with a soft smile, balancing confidence with humility.
“Here’s the deal,” Kevin said as he pulled out his phone. “Let’s swap contacts on WhatsApp. We often need dance stand–ins, and you have the look and skills we’re looking for. I’ll recommend you whenever there’s an opening.”

Sienna was somewhat taken aback. The idea of being a dance stand–in had never crossed her mind before.
Noticing her hesitation, Kevin quickly added, “The pay for landstand–ins is way higher than what you made today. So, what do you say? Interested?
Instantly, Sienna’s hesitation vanished, “Yes, thank you so much Just so you know, I work in the evenings, so I’m available during the day,” she said, taking out her phone.
Kevin scanned her code and added her on WhatsApp. “No problem. I’ll reach out when the timing is right, and you can
come in.”
“That’s fantastic. Thanks, Sienna beamed. It was surprising how easily she found this part–time gig. She felt like feiacrity was her lucky place.
Growing up in Jeiacrity, Sienna was set on calling it home for good. She’d been away for what felt like an eternity, but now, nothing and no one could drive her away again.
Because she earned an extra $300, Sienna treated herself to a burger and fries for dinner. As she set the food on the table, the delicious smell made her mouth water.
Just as she started to eat, her phone rang. Glancing at the screen, she saw Josiah’s name. She suppressed a groan and answered, “Hello? What’s up? Ready to the courthouse?”
“Is that all you ever think about? Josiah’s sarcastic reply came with a hint of annoyance. “Sienna, you’re not just rude, you’re also pretty ungrateful.”
Sienna was puzzled–why was he saying that?
“Tomorrow!” Josiah’s frustration grew as she stayed silent. “Grandana’s surgery is tomorrow.”
Sienna understood but wasn’t about to take the blame. “Is it really tomorrow? Alright, I’ll be there early. And don’t accuse me of being ungrateful–you didn’t tell me Miranda’s surgery was tomorrow.”
“Sienna Shaw!” Josiah was fed up. Every time he brought something up, she had to argue. This was a far cry from when she used to cling to him. He missed that version of her.
Before he could criticize her further, Sienna said, “Is there anything else? If not, I’m hanging up.”
“Wait.” Josiah gritted his teeth and insisted. “Where are you staying? I’ll pick you up in the morning, and we’ll go together.” “No need. I can manage on my own,” Sienna said without hesitation
‘She refused my help?‘ Josiah was unhappy. “I’m not debating this. We’re going to Grandma’s together tomorrow–that’s what you promised me.
‘Oh right, we need to keep up appearances for Miranda. Sienna rubbed her forehead and sighed, “Fine, let’s go together
then.”
“Where do you live?” Josiah asked again.
Sienna thought for a moment–she definitely couldn’t let Josiah pick her up at her place. It wasn’t that she feared his teasing: she just didn’t want him in her space. “Meet me at Lyceum Street she decided.
“Okay.” Josiah hung up the phone, pondering Lyceum Street? The impoverished part of town? That’s quite a trek. What a hassle.
The next morning, Sienna left her home early and arrived right on time at eight o’clock. To her surprise, Josiah’s car was already parked there.

Zaid stepped out and opened the car door for her, indicating the back seat where Josiah was already settled. “Ms. Shaw, please get in.” he said courteously.
“Thanks, but I’m feeling a bit carsick. I’ll sit in the front instead, Sienna smiled, opened the front passenger door, and climbed in.
Zaid chuckled awkwardly and got back into the car.
Josiah raised his eyes and fixed a serious gaze on Sienna’s profile. Is she deliberately avoiding me? Does she think I’m bothered? This is exactly what I wanted, he thought to himself with a smirk.
The roads were clear, and they made it to the nursing home before eight–thirty. Since it was Miranda’s surgery, they headed straight for the surgical building-
As Josiah and Sienna strode side by side into the surgery building, they unexpectedly bumped into Yvette in the elevator lobby.
Yvette, accompanied by Janet, was waiting for the elevator. She smiled and waved when she saw them. “Hey, Josiah.”
Then her gaze shifted to Sienna, and she maintained her friendly smile. “Sienna, you’re here too.
Josiah nodded before asking, “Aren’t you supposed to be working today? Why did you come here? You could have come after finishing your shift.”
“How could I do that?” Yvette rolled her eyes playfully. “Miranda is my family too, Is work more important than family?” Josiah didn’t press the issue further. Instead, he gestured to her foot. “Still hurting?”
“Just a little, but it’s no big deal now, Yvette smiled softly.
Just then, the elevator arrived. Josiah held the door open, letting Yvette and Janet in first. Then he turned to Sienna and said “Come on in.”
