He gave my parents a generous sum of money, urging them to take me on vacation. He had always been extravagant when it came to money–after all, he had plenty to spare. My parents, amused by his gesture, politely returned the money with a firm yet kind response.
“Don’t worry. Work hard, and we won’t shortchange Karen for you.”
I finally understood why he had betrayed me in the first place. Yet, my parents still urged me to look at the bigger picture, to not let resentment cloud my judgment.
Ferry was good at keeping up appearances. To everyone else, he seemed like the perfect man. But there was one thing he lacked–love for me. Because of our families‘ long–standing relationship and his years of dedication to my family, I refrained from openly speaking against him, even though I knew he was merely pretending.
Then, Chindy posted a cryptic message on social media.
[Why is it always the one who comes later that takes priority?]
Her following posts shattered whatever peace remained.
[Ferry and I have been together since college, but ever since Karen returned, everything has changed.
She stole him away from me. I can’t accept it, and I can’t let go of Ferry.
I’m pregnant with his child. I don’t think I’m in the wrong, but I don’t understand why Ferry refuses to accer
baby.
Ferry, you’re too cold.]
The comment section exploded. Public opinion shifted dramatically. People who had once admired Ferry now
ridiculed him.
[I thought Ferry was devoted. I was almost fooled.]
[Then that makes you the other woman, too.]
[Scum attracts scum. Stop trying to frame innocent people.]
The backlash hit hard. Zach Group suffered immediate consequences as reporters swarmed the company’s

headquarters. Even my family’s business took a hit. My father and Mr. Zach, who were usually seen only in business news, suddenly found themselves ambushed by relentless journalists asking personal questions. Their usual composure cracked under the pressure, their expressions dark and stormy as they refused to answer.
Amidst the chaos, Ferry was urgently recalled to handle the crisis. Meanwhile, my parents rushed to Rice
overnight. Their mission? To drag me home–by force if necessary.
I dropped to my knees, tears streaming down my face. “Mom, Dad, Ferry was the one who betrayed me first! Why are you being so stubborn?”
My father’s face contorted with rage. His voice trembled as he pointed at William. “Even if it’s not Ferry, it can’t be
him.”
His
gaze swept over the modest apartment. “If you must find someone, at least find someone worthy.” He scoffed. “Not someone who keeps you locked up in a place like this.”
William’s home wasn’t small. It was in the heart of the commercial district, a well–kept apartment in a high–rise
building. But to my father–who had spent his life in sprawling mansions–anything less than a villa was beneath consideration. To him, living in an apartment meant noise, chaos, and mediocrity. In his eyes, William was a man
with no real future.
I knew better. My father judged everything on surface value and I had long since given up trying to change his
mind.
“William is doing something more meaningful than you could ever understand,” I said coldly. “He’s a respected
name in his field. His work is celebrated, his achievements recognized. But you wouldn’t care about that, would
you?”
I let out a bitter laugh. “Isn’t this really about business? You just want me to marry someone who can expand your connections and benefit you. Don’t pretend this is for my sake. It’s for yours.”
The words barely left my mouth before his hand struck my face. The impact was so hard that my vision blurred, and a burning pain spread across my cheek. My skin throbbed, my eye swelling shut. He had never hit me before.
With a hoarse voice, I hissed, “Ferry not only cheated on me, but he secretly fed me birth control pills for three
years.”
My father stiffened. “What did you say?”
I enunciated every word clearly. “For three years, Ferry switched the folic acid supplements he gave me. Can you understand what that means?”
I took a shaky breath and met his gaze. “If you don’t believe me, ask Ferry yourself. Or go to the hospital and check. I still have the medical records at the central hospital.”
Silence filled the room. For the first time, my father looked uncertain. But whether it was enough to make him change his mind–I had no idea.
My mother suddenly pulled me into her arms and sobbed uncontrollably. After crying her heart out, she exchanged a look with my father and without another word, they hurriedly left.
From that day forward, they never tried to force me to come home again. Instead, they contacted my lawyer help push through my divorce with Ferry.
The lawyer later told me that my parents had gone straight to the Zach Family’s house and laid everything bare. The truth hit them so hard that Zach’s mother collapsed on the spot, overwhelmed with shock and fury.
As for Ferry, he fell to his knees, pleading, but his father–enraged beyond measure–grabbed a cane and beat him relentlessly. The blows rained down until he collapsed to the floor, unconscious and had to be rushed to the hospital.
My parents, however, seemed completely unbothered by their suffering. For the first time, they saw through the manipulations and took a firm stand for me
