Divorce in 1 day.
I was barely there for the project now.
If Sarah wasn’t there, Mark would look down
at me.
I was moving out.
But he noticed.
After a meeting. Mark invited me to his office.
After sitting, he spoke. “You’ve been moving
your things out.”
I nodded. “Yeah. To the old house.”
Mark hesitated. “About the wedding. I
thought about it.”
<
I cut him off. “It’s not necessary.”
He was confused. “What’s not necessary?”
I wanted to show him the agreement.
Sarah called. Saved me.
I saw the name.
“You should go. We can talk later.”
Mark grabbed the handle, re–iterating. “I will
see you tomorrow.”
But he didn’t.
I was on the couch, looking at my phone.
<
12 hours.
News popped up.
Sarah was at a meeting. Mark was behind
her.
I thought of his promise. Laughing to myself.
If he knew it was our last 12 hours, would he
show up?
Maybe.
But the answer was useless.
I packed the house.
The home didn’t have much.
<
But we got married there, so I missed it.
I called my partner. Saying bye.
Then my lawyer.
“The agreement was confirmed a month ago.
I don’t need to sign anything now, right?”
“Correct.”
He said.
“Congrats, Claire.”
I laughed, hanging up.
I sat.
く
3 Hours left, I packed my bags and bought a
plane ticket.
2 Hours, I cut all our photos, keeping me only.
1 Hour, I arranged the divorce agreement on
the table.
I wanted to leave a note. But I didn’t.
I thought.
“Husband, this is the last time I call you that.”
“I loved you, and liked you for 10 years.
Loving for 10 years is so long. But I am
done.”
“Congrats to you, and me.”
Grabbing my bags, I reached for the door.
It was over.
My marriage.
The door opened.
Mark was sweating, just finished working out.
He was panting, smiling with guilt.
“Sorry, Claire. I was dropping someone off.”
He stopped, looking at my bags and plane
ticket.
“Where are you going?”
