Sure enough, the area near the cafe where Josh
and I were supposed to meet was swarming
with people. Girls squealed, “The guy with the
<
flowers is so cute!” “The others are cute too!”
“I like the one on the far right! He looks so
brooding, like he has a story!” Josh was waiting
at the edge of the crowd. He grabbed my hand and pulled me through the throng. “Excuse me,
excuse me! The leading lady has arrived!” The
crowd parted. At the end of the path stood
Ethan, clutching a massive bouquet of Juliet
roses, his face flushed with nerves and
anticipation. As the crowd cheered, he went
down on one knee. Behind him, our friends
beamed, except for Ashton, who leaned against
a wall, arms crossed, looking detached. He met
my eyes for a brief second, then looked away.
Ethan cleared his throat and offered me the
roses. “Olivia, I’m sorry! I know I was a jerk.”
“After you left, I realized how much you mean
to me. Can you give me another chance? Let
me make it up to you.” I smiled faintly, pulled
out a wedding invitation, and handed it to him.
“I’m getting married next week. I hope you can
come.”
