Chapter 22
Chapter twenty two: no more pain
Evelyn’s eyes went wide as she noticed Caleb leaning into her face slowly.
Are you kidding me?! She pondered inside her. Just who did he think he was messing with?!
Evelyn raised her knee and drew her knee back, ramming it as hard as she could into Caleb’s groin. He instantly let go of her, doubling over in pain and groaning loudly. She stepped away from him and glared at him.
“What do you think you’re doing?” She hissed at him, her eyes shooting daggers at him. A scoff escaped her lips. “Know your place, Mr Winthrop.” She said with a hint of finality in her tone.
She turned and ran out of the restroom, throwing the door open before he recovered and grabbed her back. She slammed the door behind her, backing away from it slowly.
Suddenly someone grabbed her arm and pulled her away. She yelped and turned, her hand forming a fist reading to smash into the person’s face.
“Doctor Palmer!” The voice made her pause.
“Travis?” She said, lowering her raised fist. “What are you –
“Is anything the problem?” Travis asked, his eyes looking around.
“Yes, I’m fine. I was just going back to work now.”
Travis raised a brow. “Okay, let’s go shall we?”
Evelyn nodded, eager to leave the restroom environment before Caleb came out.
“So, doctor Palmer.” Travis spoke up. “Mr Winthrop, who is he to you? is he somehow related to you.”
“No exactly.” Evelyn said hesitantly, not really wanting to talk about it.
“Is he your husband? He seemed really offended seeing us together back there.”
Evelyn inhaled deeply. She turned to Travis and smiled. “Travis, I don’t want to talk about him.” She said.
Travis nodded. “Ah, then I won’t ask any more.”

Chapter 22
Thank you. Evelyn said gratefully. As they headed back to the wards she turned and glanced towards the restroom. Her body bristled with anger again.
What exactly was Caleb trying to prove?! Did he try to kiss her back then?! Was he out of his mind?
Evelyn remembered how she had spent so much of her time loving him when he never cared about her. All she had given up and abandoned to be a loving housewife for him, and how quick he was to throw it all away.
Her hand curled into a fist. He was a joker if he thought she would let him worm his way into her life so easily.
Caleb groaned deeply in pain, bent over the sink. He couldn’t believe what had just happened in the past minute.
Did he…did he wasn’t to kiss Evelyn?
He raised his body up and stared at his reflection in the mirror. His face was squeezed in pain and agony, Evelyn had put a lot of strength into that kick.
”
He wondered what could have made him act that way. Was he jealous? Of what exactly? She wasn’t his girlfriend or anything. So why exactly did he act like that?
He had convinced himself that he didn’t love her, not for a single day. Yet if that was the case, why did he drag her to the restroom? Why did he try to kiss her? Why did he feel the violent urge to punch that doctor in his face?
Caleb waited a few minutes for the pain to abate. Once it did, he straightened himself up and walked out of the restroom. As he walked through he halls he pondered on what next to do. He didn’t want to face Evelyn again, especially not after she had wounded his pride.
He got outside the hospital and headed for the parking lot to his car. He drove home, his mind deep in thought.
Caleb got home and took a cold shower.
However hard he tried he couldn’t get the thought of Evelyn out of his mind.
What was she doing now? Was she alone with that man? Was she in love with him? Were they getting together?
“Damnit.” He hissed and slammed his fist into the bathroom wall. The cold water trickling down his back didn’t help his nerves. “You don’t love her, forget about her.” He chanted to himself repeatedly.
He finished up his shower and got ready for bed. Nothing he tried helped. He couldn’t stop thinking about them.
He got into bed and tried to fall asleep, thinking to himself that maybe in the morning everything will be better.

Chapter 22
Aurelia punched the password for the lock and the door clicked open. She walked dinto the penthouse, her arm heavy from the numerous shopping bags she carried. She tiptoed quietly, her eyes glancing at the wall clock that read 11:45pm.
She knew she was very late, and Caleb didn’t like it when she returned home late. She tried to make as little noise as possible as she walked up the stairs to their bedroom.
She couldn’t wait to show him all the stuff she had bought for him. he would probably scold her for spending too much money, but he never actually took it seriously.
She opened the door slowly, squeezing her eyes shut when the door creaked. She expected to see him working but to be surprise he was fast asleep.
She dropped the bags carefully and tiptoed over to him. Her heart filled with love as she saw his sleeping form in bed.
He seemed to be having a nightmare, from.how he was whispering and turning his head. Aurelia came closer, wondering what he could be dreaming about.
“Evelyn…” He whispered quietly. “Don’t go …don’t leave me…”
Aurelia gasped and stepped back. Hearing him call out his ex’s name filled her with anger and hatred.
Even after all these years, he still hasn’t forgotten that woman. Aurelia felt a sadness prick her heart. She loved him with all her heart, and here he was dreaming of another woman.
“That damned Evelyn.” Aurelia hissed under her breath. “She’ll pay for this. Very dearly.”
