Chapter thirty: done with it
The light was too bright for his eyes.

Caleb woke up, and instantly felt the explosive headache threatening to tear his head apart. His head swirled and his vision was out of focus for a while before getting clearer. He slowly got up in bed and rubbed his head.
What the hell had he been doing last night to get such a headache?!
His foot but something on the floor. He looked down to see a bottle of Jack Daniels. He sighed heavily. He recalled that the previous night he had gone to a bar to drink, and somehow became wasted. Everything else was a blur that he couldn’t recall.
Why had he gone to a bar in the very first place?!
He got out of bed, wobbling on his feet a bit. He dragged himself to his bathroom and brushed his teeth. His reflection in the mirror was alarming, his hair was messy and his skin looked dull plus the dark circles under his eyes.
He washed his face and brushed his teeth again to get rid of the alcohol smell.
After he was done, he made his way to Aurelia said room. Perhaps she would have an idea of what had happened while he was drunk to stupor.
He left his room and walked down the hall to Aurelia’s room. He opened the door and walked in, surprised to see her packing up.
Oh no, had he promised her a vacation while he was drunk?!
“What are you doing?” He asked.
She didn’t reply and continued to fold her clothes and dump them into her suitcase. She was fully dressed, with her hair and makeup done.
“Are you going on a vacation?” He asked again.
She was silent for a moment then she said “No.”
Caleb sighed, not liking her lack of response. His head was still pounding and all he wanted to do was take aspirin and rest.
“Then what are you doing? Are you finally going back to your own apartment?”
“Why do you care?” She replied coldly. “Afterall you never wanted me here? Did you?”

Caleb sighed and rubbed his temples. True he had been opposed to the idea if her moving in with him, which was why he got her an apartment and all that.
“I forced myself in here and I’m also talking myself out of here.” Aurelia said. She brought out another suitcase and started piling her shoes inside it.
“What exactly is wrong with you this morning?”
“It’s one o clock.” She snapped. “And what is wrong with me?! You have no idea don’t you.”
Caleb folded his arms and waited for her to continue.
“I’m tried okay? I’m really tired about all of this.” She said. “All these years of being faithful, and waiting for my love to love me back. It’s exhausting. Do you have any idea how many men I had to turn down because of you?”
He stared at her, having no words for her. She scoffed and continued speaking,
“Eligible men okay?! I turned them all down for you cos I wanted nothing more than to be your wife! And as if that wasn’t all enough, you keep choosing Evelyn! Evelyn all the time!”
Caleb realized it was a bad idea coming here. Also Evelyn? What did anything have to do with Evelyn?
“Even when you’re drunk to hell you choose her! If you’re so obsessed with her why didn’t you just marry her?! Why did you have to waste so much of my time on fake promises?!”
Caleb wasn’t obsessed with Evelyn. Not by a long shot. He didn’t love her. He didn’t care for her. And Aurelia was failing to see that.
“Why won’t you talk to me?!” She screamed. “Say something! Anything!”
Caleb felt his head splitting in half. His headache was further worsened by her screaming. He grabbed his head, hissing in pain. The first thing he should have done was take some damned aspirin.
He was so not in the mood to deal with Aurelia. Not for any reason.
He ignored her completely, turned on his heel and left. He heard her horrified gasp behind him and rolled his eyes. If she wanted to leave, she could up and do so. He didn’t care.
He went back to his room and took some aspirin form his medical cabinet.
Aurelia sat on her bed, surrounded by her suitcases of clothes. She couldn’t believe Caleb at times.
He had just ignored her like she wasn’t even there, even though he was the one that came to her.

Aurelia was tired. She had always suspected that Caleb still wanted Evelyn back in his life. But Everytime he would deny it, making her look like a fool.
She felt betrayed and stabbed. All she wanted was his attention, and he wasn’t even giving it to her. It wasn’t like this in the past. In the past he was all hers and she knew it. She reveled in it. Now it was obvious that he didn’t feel that way about again.
Ever since Evelyn had returned, things had changed for the worst. The little attention she had gotten from him was gone. He seemed consumed with thoughts of Evelyn.
And last night…. Aurelia’s heart broke. If given the chance she was very sure he would get back with Evelyn.
She felt stupid that she had wasted so many years of her life on him, hoping that he would love her with all his heart. When Evelyn was divorced she had been so happy. Finally he would be all hers.
How wrong she was.
Aurelia wiped her eyes and made a resolve in her heart. She was tired of all these pointless waiting around. Tired of the Evelyn drama. Tired of being pushed aside all the time.
It was time for her to make a change and show them just who she was. And why no one messed around with her.
