- 4.
A week later, Tiffany and Jake got married.
The doctor said I couldn’t leave the hospital,
but Mom didn’t care.
She sat me in a wheelchair, hiding her pain.
“Cassie, it’s your brother’s wedding. You have
to be there.”
“I know you’re hurt, but can you please be
strong? You can’t ruin this special day for
your brother.”
I didn’t say anything.
Mom didn’t need me to. She took me to the
wedding.
Everyone stared at me when I arrived.
“Look at those wounds. It’s disgusting.”
“She was a bully who was punished. It’s what
she deserved.”
“Tiffany is so kind to invite her. If I was in the
family, I would disown Cassie.”
Tiffany’s smile widened.
She walked towards me.
“Cassie, I’m going to be your sister. I picked
out a rich lawyer for you. You’ll be well taken
<
care of for the rest of your life.”
I said, “My mom is still alive. I don’t need your
help.”
Jake slapped me.
“Cassie, show some respect. Apologize to
Tiffany.”
Seeing Jake stand up for Tiffany, I felt
suffocated.
Before Tiffany, I was Jake’s favorite.
What had changed?
I asked him, “Why are you doing this to me?”
He hesitated.
“My wife and my sister are different. I have to
put my wife first now.”
He didn’t need me anymore.
I felt like I was drowning. I couldn’t speak.
Tiffany pushed my wheelchair into a room, a
knowing look on her face.
A man with a beer belly was fawning over
Jake.
“This must be your sister. I’ll take good care
of her.”
“I understand wanting the best for your sister. Here is my little sister, Stacy.”
I knew who Tiffany was talking about
immediately.
My face turned pale.
“I don’t want to be here!”
“Mom, Jake, please take me away!”
I clutched at Mom’s dress, tearing my wounds
open again.
Tiffany started to cry.
“Cassie, do you hate the man I picked for
you? Or do you just hate me?”
Jake frowned at me.
“Enough, Cassie. Stop being difficult. Stay
here and get to know your future husband.”
Mom looked at me pleadingly.
“Cassie, please listen to your brother.”
I broke down.
“Please! I don’t want to be here! Let me out!”
I fell out of my wheelchair, crawling towards
the door.
Tiffany smirked and kneeled down.
“My surprise isn’t over yet.”
She locked the door behind her.
I heard footsteps approaching.
I turned and saw the women who had tortured
me in the dorm.
I begged for mercy, but my cries were
drowned out by the wedding music.
My world went dark.
At the wedding, Jake put a ring on Tiffany’s
finger, hugging her.
Mom applauded, crying tears of joy.
Suddenly, someone ran up to them.
“There’s a fire! Cassie is trapped inside!”
