Chapter 9
I’ve known Jacob since I was eight. Now I’m twenty–four.
I never imagined we’d end things this way. I expected Jacob to go to any lengths to get even. He had been spoiled his whole life and no one had ever dared to cross him.
After what I said to him, it’s only natural that he’d want revenge. I was ready for it. I’d even consider switching careers if he planned to crush me and block my path. I didn’t want to have anything to do with him anymore.
But to my surprise, the revenge I expected
never came.
From that day on, Jacob would come to school every day with all sorts of gifts.
Today, it was a bouquet; the next day, it was a necklace. Even others at school were
starting to ship us as a couple.

Chapter 9
He approached me today while bringing a thermos and looking at me affectionately.
Since that last incident, I didn’t want to get entangled with him anymore, even if he appeared before me daily.
The moment my classmates saw him, they got excited and nudged me.
“Mia, your boyfriend is here.”
I looked at Jacob, who looked at me affectionately.
“He’s not my boyfriend,” I said coldly.
I knew it was time to make everything between us clear once and for all.
I headed towards the classroom door.
He held the lunch box and stared at me tenderly. It reminded me of when we were
younger.
I was in middle school back then and he was in high school. He would appear at my classroom door daily with a small gift.

But things had changed so much. He wasn’t the Jacob I knew in high school.
“Let’s talk.”

In the coffee shop…
I looked at the man in front of me expressionlessly and said straight to the point. “Mr. Yale, I hope you can let me go.”
Jacob frowned. “Mia, we…

I cut him off before he could finish. “We’re
over.”
He shot to his feet, visibly agitated.
“I’ve fallen in love with you and you still like me. Why can’t we make this work?”
“The past is the past. I was with Catherine for the company contract.”
I looked up at him quietly.
“You knew I liked you all along, didn’t you?”

Jacob wasn’t stupid.
I thought I had hidden it well, but how could he not see my sincerity?
The reality was simple. I was just a scholarship student funded by his family, someone who could never be his equal.
He enjoyed having me around, but he was also seeing other people. He knew I wouldn’t leave him. So, he continued to take advantage of my feelings.
I was too caught up in the situation to see things.
But now that I’ve stepped back, I understand everything perfectly.
A flicker of panic crossed Jacob’s face.
He started to speak. “Mia, I…

I sighed, “Jacob, you’ll always just be my brother. That will never change.”
Apart from that, we haven’t last got in touch a while ago.

Jacob clearly couldn’t accept this.
He shook his head vigorously. “No, that’s not okay.”
“Mia, I was young and reckless back then. I didn’t realize my true feelings.”
I pressed my lips together tightly, trying to control my emotions.
But at this moment, they poured out.
Tears streamed down my face, falling like pearls onto the floor.
Seeing me like this, Jacob tried to hug me.
I stepped back.
“Jacob, I’ve been secretly in love with you since I was eight. At 24, I’m just so tired of
it all.”
