Chapter 11 Man Or Money

“Are you suggesting Ms. Willis to serve as someone’s secretary? Have you lost your mind?” someone immediately retorted.
“Ms. Willis is the perfect blend of brains and brawn. She’s young and attractive and has a track record full of accomplishments. What CEO wouldn’t be envious and want to snag her for their company? Those headhunting agencies would be all over her like bees to honey”
Jemima simply smiled without saying a word.
In reality, they had underestimated the keen senses of the headhunters. About ten days ago, someone had called her, subtly inquiring about her future career plans. At that time, there wasn’t a whisper of her leaving Kingsford Group out in the open.
Everyone continued discussing this topic.
“Don’t be so narrow–minded. What’s wrong with being a secretary? That’s the position of executive secretary to the heir of Zenith Group! It’s a chance to connect with the top elites of Yhuwell, and if done well, the future is limitless.”
“I knew a woman who was incredibly talented and worked for a company overseas. After a few years, she was promoted to “deputy CEO of the corporation. Not only did she achieve professional success, but she also found a wonderful love and
eventually became the CEO’s wife”
“If you put it that way. I’m tempted to apply myself.”
“Have you ever seen the heir of Zenith Group himself? What does he look like? Is he handsome?”
“I’ve never seen him before. Of the four Sterling siblings, only the eldest daughter has made public appearances. The other three are quite mysterious.”
As the group of people continued their conversation, it gradually started to veer off course.
Jemima found herself torn between laughter and tears upon hearing it..
Seeing their faces filled with hopeful anticipation for love, she felt like a nun who had seen through the worldly illusions of
romance.
When it came to love, she had decided to stay away from it.
However, when it came to her career, she realized it was something she could definitely consider.
She aspired to start her own business but realized that all her connections were tied to Julius. If she severed ties with him, no one would respect her
She needed to rebuild her image.
In the evening, she reached out to Wynter Yalland, a socialite known for mingling with high society and the affluent elite. She wanted to gather information about Zenith Group and its enigmatic heir.
A languid laugh echoed from the other end of the phone. “You’re inquiring about other men? Aren’t you afraid Mr. Stahl will be jealous!”
“He can get jealous all he wants. It has nothing to do with me.”
“I mean, Darling, you two… haven’t really broken up, have you?” Wynter asked, her curiosity evident.
“Not at the moment,” Jemima replied subtly.
Wynter, however, understood immediately and let out a long sigh. “It seems the rumors I’ve heard were all true. You two were together for eight years. Julius really is a piece of work.”
Wynter was her genuine self, and Jemima played the role of the pitiful one perfectly. “So, I have to look out for myself, too. I heard the heir is hiring a secretary, and I’m thinking of giving it a shot,”
“Okay, spill the beans. Are you after the man or the money?”

Hearty laughter echoed from the other end. “Leave it to me. I’ll make sure you meet this god of wealth”
“Thank you.
“Wait for my good news.”
After finishing the call, Jemima returned to her laptop.

The information she found on the screen was disappointingly sparse, “Scott Sterling… she murmured, mulling over the name in her mind. She hoped to gain some insight into his personal preferences and quirks ahead of time.
Just as she was deep in thought, the door to the study opened, and Julius entered.
Jemima closed her laptop.
Both of them had their own studies, In the past, when their love was intense, they had always been inseparable. But as time went by, their relationship gradually shifted to that of a superior and subordinate. After work, they would return home and continue to leave each other undisturbed.
Is there something you need?” She looked up
“Can’t I come in just because I want to?”
“Yes, you can.” Once I leave, you can even streak if you want to
Julius eyed the laptop suspiciously. She had closed it as soon as he entered, clearly not wanting him to see something.
He seated himself on a lounge chair in her study. “There’s something I’d like to discuss with you in advance.”
“What is it?”
Julius lowered his gaze, pondering for a few seconds before saying, “Nadie wants to join your project department”
Jemima had already suspected that his overly polite demeanor was a bad omen. Yet, he still managed to catch her off guard.
Her expression turned icy. “Of all the departments in the company, does she really have to choose to ruin the project department?”
Julius was displeased. “How can you say that? She is genuinely trying to achieve something, which is something to be encouraged.”
Jemima was so frustrated she felt as if she could explode. “If she wants to achieve something, give her any department in the company to play with, I don’t care. But not the project department! That’s my department! Those are my people!”
“Be reasonable, Jemima, you’ve already resigned! You’re no longer part of Kingsford Group! The project department isn’t yours anymore!”
Jemima stiffened, feeling a tightness lodged in her throat.
Right, Kingsford Group belongs to him. What right do I have to disagree, let alone challenge him?
There’s nothing I can do about it if he plans to use the fruits of my labor to please his new love interest.
Observing her reaction, Julius swallowed his anger. “Don’t think so poorly of her. I assure you, she’s not out to cause trouble. I’ll keep an eye on her.”
“Whatever you say.”
Jemima’s voice was soft and barely audible.
She was tired. She didn’t want to bother anymore.
Frustration simmered in Julius‘ eyes. “The reason I’m telling you this is to avoid seeing you upset like you are now. I know you harbor strong resentment toward Nadie and don’t like her, but can’t you see the predicament Im in? Our families are collaborating right now. Am I supposed to jeopardize our relationship with the Goodwin family over your personal feelings!

Donnes in a Chanel ensemble, Nadine moved into Jemima’s office with the air of a victor.
She went so far as to discard all the furniture and decorations. Jemima’s wall of trophies was carelessly tossed into the trash.
The entire project department was on the verge of losing their minds.
Everyone had been speculating about who would replace Jemima as the head of the project department. It wasn’t necessary to find someone stronger, but at the very least, they shouldn’t pick an incompetent person.
According to the secretarial department. Nadine didn’t even know how to use a printer. She spent her days snacking and playing games, recklessly downloading games until her laptop was infected with viruses. Then, she’d brazenly storm into the secretarial office to commandeer their laptops. As a result, she once deleted important files from a secretary’s laptop.
The most absurd part was, in the end, Julius bred the victim.
They didn’t even dare to imagine what kind of mischief she might stir up in the project department.
Inside the office. Jemima began the handover process with an expressionless face.
However, just as she picked up a few important documents, Nadine began to deliver a passionate speech.
“Jemima, how does it feel?” Nadine sat in her chair, looking down at Jemima with an air of arrogance. “You’ve lost your man and your job. Everything you’ve struggled for over the years, I could take away with a snap of my fingers. Do you know why? Because we come from different worlds. I am privileged, while you are insignificant. I have people backing me up, while you have no one. In our circle, I’ve seen too many pretty faces like yours, nothing more than playthings for men to vent their desires. And you, you even dared to dream of murrying into the Stahl family. How overambitious of you.”
