- 6.
Mark panicked when he heard I’d called the
cops.
“Julie, come on! I said I’d marry you, what
more do you want?”
Sarah was crying.
“Julie, this scholarship means everything to
- me. I won’t go after Mark anymore, okay?
Just let me have this.”
Thankfully, the cops came fast.
I gave them the recording of our
conversation.
Mark and Sarah turned white as ghosts.
The police questioned them and took them
away.
The school found out the truth and took
Sarah’s scholarship away.
Because the deadline was over, I couldn’t get
the scholarship back.
Only four months left until the SATS.
く
I had to study, and I did.
After months of hard work, I did it.
When I got my acceptance letter from State
University, I just started crying.
Last time, I gave up my scholarship, didn’t
take the SATs, and went to work.
I thought Mark was my future.
He married me, and I thought I was happy.
Then, he refused the checkup.
“Honey, this checkup is important for you,
me, and our future kids.”
“This is about taking responsibility, why do
you not want to go.”
“You just don’t believe me, then, let’s just end
this.”
I didn’t know what to do, so I let it happen.
It was all a lie.
He knew he had Huntington’s, that’s why he
didn’t want to get tested.
It was a trap.
He wanted a free nurse to take care of him,
and he thought I was the perfect fit for it.
I touched the letter.
This time, my life was going to be different.
I put the letter away and called a taxi towards
the graduate party.
