I walked inside, and I saw Mark and Sarah
were walking around, giving drinks to people.
You would think this was their wedding.
I bumped into my old roommate.
“What’s going on?”
“I heard that someone from our school went
to A–U, and people are saying it’s them.”
“I hate those two, how did State even let
those two in. What school did you get into.”
Everyone knew what happened to me, and
didn’t want to make me sad.
I was about to answer them, but someone
yelled: “Chairman Sterling is here!”
Chairman Sterling, was the owner of Sterling
Enterprises, was famous in the business
world.
He was also a shareholder in our school, and
had some power.
Of course, he was also my father.

Everyone said hi to him.
He ignored them, and started looking around.
His eyes were looking for someone.
I knew it was me.
So I waved at him.
His face lit up, and walked to the empty seat
next to me.
He sat next to me, and didn’t know what to
do, and started putting food on my plate.
People were confused and wondered how I
knew Chairman Sterling.
Some people were even jealous.
My father had to go somewhere for a phone
call.

Right when he left, Sarah started saying:
“I knew it, how could anyone not want Mark?
Turns out you were sucking up to an old guy.”
“Look at his age, he could even be your
father, but you still do that.”
Mark didn’t say anything, but you could tell he
was agreeing with her.
I laughed, and decided not to say anything.
My father was coming back, and was going to
tell everyone.
My father came back, and still put food on my
plate.
The principal said:
“Everyone, we have a really smart student
who went to State University! This is the
pride of the school!”
“Let’s all give this student a applause!”
Nobody clapped, it was quiet.
