Chapter 6
I couldn’t believe such a cruel remark had come from him. After speaking, Lenard and his group of friends left, not sparing me even a glance. Priscilla noticed Melvin’s intentions and tried to pull me away, but he struck her hard across the face, knocking her unconscious.
With an impatient look, he started dragging me outside.
“Didn’t you always want to get married?
What difference does it make who it’s
with? I have connections at the registry office. We can make it official right now.
“Let go of me!” I struggled, my voice shaking.
The restaurant staff tried to step in, but their manager stopped them, muttering, “Do you have any idea who he is? Step aside. Don’t get yourselves into trouble.”
I desperately called out for help, but

everyone around me turned a blind eye. Just as I was about to be dragged out of the restaurant, a deep voice rang out like a lifeline.
“Where do you think you‘ re taking my fiancée, Lambert?”
Melvin turned around, ready to curse, but the words died on his lips when he recognized the speaker. His voice
trembled, “Rafael? I mean… Mr.
Donovan.”
The grip on my wrist loosened instantly. The brief relief of being rescued wasn’t enough to erase the despair I had just felt. I looked at Rafael Donovan, standing tall and composed and an impulsive thought flashed through my mind.
Grabbing Rafael’s hand, I blurted,
“Rafael, let’s skip the dates, the getting to know each other phase–all of it. Let’s get married right now.”
Melvin’s eyes widened in shock, his jaw

dropping. His disbelief only grew when Rafael didn’t push me away but instead pulled me protectively to his side. Rafael’s cold, piercing gaze settled on Melvin, making it clear that his interference. wouldn’t go unpunished. Melvin knew he was done for. And not just him–his entire family was done, too.
Rafael didn’t say a word of objection. Before leaving, he instructed his
bodyguards to give Melvin a thorough beating, claiming it was his first wedding gift to me.
“I’ll take Priscilla home first. I’ll see you at the registry office,” I said, my voice steady despite the chaos.
I politely declined his offer to have a driver take me. It wasn‘ t that I wanted to back out; I just needed some time to gather my thoughts.
When we got back to her apartment, Priscilla had already regained
consciousness. She immediately

bombarded me with questions.
“Faye, are you sure about marrying Rafael Donovan?”
I shrugged, trying to play it cool. “It’s not like I have many options right now. At least Rafael is wealthy. In worst case scenario, I’d still have a comfortable life as a trophy wife.”
Priscilla pressed her lips together. She knew me too well to believe I meant it.
“Just promise me you’ll be fine,” her tone laced with concerns.
“I promise.”
As I neared the registry office, a text came in from an unfamiliar number:
[If you don’t want to marry Melvin, take me off your blacklist and apologize. I’ll help you.]
There was no need to put my brain to gear to know who the sender was–only Lenard would say something so brazen.

[I don’t need your help. You told me that we should break up and I’m taking that offer. Let’s not intervene in each other‘ s
lives.]
After sending the reply, I blocked his number without hesitation. Lenard had no
power over me anymore. Lenard probably didn’t realize that I was serious about
getting married this time. And not to
Melvin–but to his uncle.
Years ago, before Lenard‘ s family went. bankrupt, I had met Rafael Donovan. We were close enough in age to play together occasionally back then.
Rafael had always been the golden child- successful at everything. He started his own company as soon as he came of age, making ruthless business moves while being equally dedicated to philanthropy. There were countless online reports of his contributions to various charitable causes.
I’d thought it through: rather than clinging to a love that had only brought me

pain, it was better to start fresh with
someone genuinely good. A marriage built on mutual respect would be far better than one full of schemes. And Rafael? He was the perfect candidate.
When I arrived at the registry office, Rafael was already waiting. His gentle expression remained unchanged and as he looked at me, it was as if I was the only person in his
world.
