“Evelyn, don’t worry. I’ll fix this. You and
Lucas will bond, I promise.” David tried to
reassure me. “Stay here for a while. I need to
go back and deal with Amelia.”
I nodded silently, all hope lost.
The day after he left, I went to Lucas’s room.
He was playing with toys.
“Do you want to come home with Mommy?”
<
He refused instantly. “You’re not my mommy!
Amelia said she’s my mommy, even if she
didn’t give birth to me. And I hate you! You
tried to steal Daddy from her!”
My heart sank. Amelia had poisoned him
against me. Tears welled up, and I fled the
room. Being with David was the biggest
mistake of my life. I was trapped in
quicksand, sinking deeper with every struggle.
But I knew I had to escape while I still could.
After a week, I decided to leave. Lucas
seemed happier, more carefree without me.
He clearly resented me. The nanny held a
higher place in his heart. Leaving was the
right thing to do.
I returned home, resigned from my job, and
left the city that held so much heartbreak.
