I walked her to the door and saw a young man in an expensive–looking jacket. He wasn’t a local. I explained Lily’s situation.
“Thank you, Dr. Sanders,” he smiled. “You’re
new here, right? I’m Samuel. I’m here to teach.

My eyes lit up. A kindred spirit. He could help

We divided the tasks. He drove to the nearest

Two days later, our workshop began. Many villagers and young girls attended. After my presentation, Samuel and I distributed sanitary pads. I’d discovered that disposable pads were uncommon here; most girls used cloth. It broke my heart.
As the workshop ended, Samuel handed me a
water bottle. “You’re really something.”
“How so?”
“You’re kind. And like me, you want to help
these kids.” He leaned against the doorframe.
“By the way, how long will you be staying
here?”
