“Evelyn Sanders, you’ve moved on quickly!”
David glared at me, his face dark. He pulled Lucas inside.
“Don’t be ridiculous!” I snapped, then turned to Samuel. “Please excuse us. I’ll catch up with you later.”
“No, you don’t!” David grabbed Samuel’s jacket. “Stay right here and explain yourself!
Are you messing around with my wife?”
“Sir, you seem like an educated man. Think
before you speak.” Samuel’s calm reply
fueled David’s rage. He swung at Samuel, and
a brawl erupted. Lucas started crying. I pulled

“Stop it!” I yelled at David. “If you want to
lose your mind, don’t do it here!”
“I’m so sorry you got dragged into this,” I said, leading Samuel inside to tend to his bruised face. David and Lucas waited outside.
Samuel chuckled. “It’s okay. Is he really your husband, though? If he is, I’d advise you to get a divorce. He’s got a violent streak.”
“No,” I said. “We were together, and Lucas is
my son, but we’re not legally married. He has
a wife. He lied to me for six years.
Samuel’s eyes widened. “Then you definitely
shouldn’t be with him. He’s disgusting.”

I agreed wholeheartedly. I had no intention of
ever being with David again.
After cleaning Samuel’s wounds, I asked him
to leave so I could talk to David.
