After Evelyn rejected him, David pursued her

One day, she was gone. He learned she’d
gone abroad to see Samuel. He followed her
to France. Beneath the Eiffel Tower, he
watched Evelyn reach up and kiss Samuel. He
heard her say she loved him.
Samuel smiled. “I knew you before he did,
Evelyn. My love for you isn’t limited to six
years. I’ll give you a happy future. And most
importantly, I’ll give you the commitment you
deserve. Let’s get married. Now.”
David’s heart shattered. He regretted not
divorcing Amelia sooner, not being free to be
with Evelyn. But back then, blinded by
ambition, he’d chosen business over love. He
couldn’t have both.
He watched them walk away, hand–in–hand,
a painful echo of his own past with Evelyn. He
remembered her asking, “Will you ever let me
down?”
He’d promised, “Never.”

He knew, in that moment, he’d never truly
move on.
