Chapter 21
Several hands gripped Aliana tightly, holding her still as the doctor positioned the ultrasound probe.
Aliana, powerless to fight back, closed her eyes in hopeless resignation, the weight of her situation sinking in.
The lead surgeon arrived late; his presence was as cold as his reputation. Once the family doctor of the Davidson household, he was known for his unquestioning obedience.
Yet, when a patient failed to show up for a follow–up after an abortion, he couldn’t help but ask the family about her condition.
“Mr. Davidson, how is the madam‘ s health? Was the fetus preserved?”
Emmett froze, a wave of panic crashing through him, his soaked clothes clinging to him as if trying to pull him down. His legs.

felt unsteady beneath him, the air suddenly too thick to breathe..
His voice shook as he demanded, “What did you say? What fetus?!”
The doctor, taken aback by Emmett‘ s reaction, realized too late that he had misspoken. With no choice but to face the truth, he hesitated before speaking.
“It’s Athena. The last time she fainted at home, I examined her and discovered she was pregnant. However, she showed signs of a potential miscarriage. I administered a progesterone shot. Has she been taking care of herself at home?”
Emmett’s world tilted on its axis, his vision blurring as darkness crept in.
Athena… pregnant… fighting to hold on to the pregnancy…
A flood of memories crashed over him like a tide. He remembered Athena being hospitalized, her casual mention of feeling unwell, but now, in hindsight, he saw the

signs.
At the time, though, he had been too lost in his affair with Aliana, ignoring Athena entirely.
It hit him then; their child had been real, even if only for a fleeting moment.
Emmett’s chest tightened, a sharp, heart- wrenching pain seizing him. He pressed his hand to his chest, his voice trembling as he fought to speak. “Get her medical
records for me.”
The doctor hesitated, sensing the urgency in his voice, but ultimately turned and obeyed.
Emmett’s wet clothes clung to him, the fabric still wringing out water. When he released his hand, he trembled violently, staring at his water–soaked palm before letting out a bitter laugh.
How childish. How ridiculous… He had
once convinced himself that standing in the rain had been his punishment.

But Athena had suffered alone, her pregnancy a silent battle, fighting to protect the baby. Her pain had been a thousand times worse than his own!
No wonder Athena had left him. She had been utterly, completely disappointed in him.
A wave of sorrow surged through Emmett, his gaze shifting to the medical equipment nearby. In a desperate impulse, he grabbed a surgical scissor and plunged it into his palm.
“Emmett!”
The sudden move shocked everyone into action. Forgetting Aliana, they rushed to stop him.
In the chaos, Aliana tried to crawl away, but Emmett kicked her back with no
hesitation.
“Don’t mind me!” he snapped, his voice cold and cutting. “Get this woman out of here! Call the other doctors!”

Aliana screamed, but there was no escaping. She was forced back down, helpless.
The doctor, fearing another catastrophe, didn’t dare waste another moment. He quickly resumed the procedure, his hands moving swiftly.
Irritated by Aliana‘ s shrill voice, Emmett pressed his bleeding hand over her mouth, silencing her with an iron grip.
“Shut up!” he growled, his eyes icy with venom. “It won’t just be an abortion if you keep making noise.”
His words were sharp, a warning laced with a cruelty that sent a chill through the
room.
“Athena left with my child. Why should yours be allowed to stay?”
A wave of disgust washed over him as he thought of all the sweet promises he had made to this woman. Every word felt like poison now.

“Huh?” The doctor‘ s voice broke
through the tension, his eyes scanning the ultrasound images again.
“Mr. Davidson, there’s no sign of the embryo implanting.”
Emmett’s heart skipped a beat. “So, you
mean…
“She’s not pregnant,” the doctor finished.
Despair settled over Aliana like a thick fog as she closed her eyes, defeated.
A thunderclap seemed to echo in
Emmett‘ s mind, and his face darkened. The rage simmering beneath his skin threatened to break free.
