Chapter 4
Grace’s POV
“What? I didn’t do anything!” I protested. “It’s all her fault!” I swung the car door open, but Simon locked it.
Simon’s bloodshot eyes bore into me. “She lost the baby and almost got divorced because of what you did! You can’t just get away from it!”
I let out a sarcastic laugh and clapped my hands. “Perfect! You can be with her now. Aren’t you happy?”
That sent him over the edge; he jumped out of the car and yanked me out. “You’re apologizing today!” he seethed, emphasizing each word.
He dragged me toward the villa, and I tried to fight back, but I was too weak.
In our old bedroom, Sylvia was lying there, pale as a ghost. But as soon as she saw me,

she pursed her lips and shot up. “You bitch!” she cried. Her hand was too fast for my cheeks to avoid her slap. “Because of you, I lost my baby! I’m gonna kill you!”
She lunged for me again, but Simon held her back. “Sylvia, calm down. You need to focus on your recovery. Let me deal with this.” Then he turned to me, “Kneel and apologize to her, and you can get what you want later.”
“You wish,” I shot back as I sneered. But as soon as I said that, pain shot through my knees, and I found myself forced to kneel.
Simon pushed down on my shoulders, demanding, “Apologize!”
Sylvia shook her head as she crouched in front of me. Her lips quivered, and her eyes welled as she stammered, “Y–You’re impossible! My baby… Oh, my baby’s gone, and you don’t feel sorry, even just a little!”
I stared her down, smirking. “Oh, I want you and Simon gone, too.”

Sylvia’s face darkened. She scoffed and stared at me with pity. “Oh, sweetie,” she whispered, “you’ll die first!” My heart raced. as she pulled out a fruit knife, and before I knew it, she had stabbed it right into my side.1
Simon reacted fast, shoving Sylvia away and holding me close. “Grace!” he shouted. I could hear the fright in his voice. But I felt numb, and then darkness pulled me under.
When I opened my eyes, I found myself lying on a hospital bed and Simon dozing next to me. Just the sight of him would have sent me into a coma.
Ignoring the pain in my side, I reached for the bottle of water on the bedside table. I felt my heart pounding in my chest as I flung the bottle at him without any hesitation. It hit him square in the forehead enough to trickle blood down.
Suddenly, he was alert. His forehead was knitted together for a second. When his

eyes landed on me, he rushed over, all apologetic. “Grace! Oh, darling, I’m so sorry! I–I didn’t think she’d have a knife!”
I flinched away from him, pain shooting through me again. “Get away from me!” As I shouted, I felt my wound slice open, blood seeping through my hospital gown. His face went pale, and in a split second, dashed out for a doctor.

For days, he kept coming back, but I didn’t touch a thing he brought. When my stomach growled too loud, I had to hire a nurse. I had no other options as my parents weren’t there; I was too scared to let them know what happened.
In the meantime, while I was recovering, I started preparing everything I needed to throw Sylvia in jail.
