Chapter 6
Grace’s POV
Magnus looked a bit worried like he was afraid I might change my mind. His hand tugged on my sleeve gently as if nudging
- me.
“I got this,” I reassured him.
He nodded, and then I turned to my ex. “Simon. This is gonna be the last time I’ll talk to you. Listen, you’re too selfish to be my husband again. But for Sylvia, you will always be perfect—because you’re exactly like her. Just wait ‘til she gets out of jail, and make your relationship with her official. Now, enough with your drama. I’m out of this.”
He glanced at me, but his eyes were dull and empty like words had failed him too.
There was something almost heartbreaking in his look–like he had given up on everything.

But I decided to ignore it and pulled Magnus toward my place instead.
As soon as my parents saw Magnus, they welcomed him with open arms, asking him endless questions about his career, love life, health, and life in general.
They always welcomed him like he was the golden child they wished they had.
His mom, who I called godmother, treated me like her own too.
But since I got married, Magnus hadn’t come by much.
They were in the middle of catching up when out of nowhere, the doorbell rang. I opened it to find Magnus’s mom standing there.
She stopped for a second when she saw me as if recognizing the person before her. Then, all smiles, she threw her arms around me.
She still treated me like I was a kid.

“Gracie! Since when have you been home again?”
I smiled and invited her inside. “Oh, not long ago. By the way, your favorite son’s here too,” I said, chuckling.
“Really?! Oh, finally the kids are home!” she rejoiced. “We should have a toast!”
Behind me, Mom jumped up to greet her best friend like a kid on Thanksgiving morning.
Watching this rare moment pinched my heart, the regret gnawing in my chest. All these years, I had spent my life on Simon and rarely with the people who loved me first.
Every single day was filled with Sylvia’s endless drama, leaving me stressed out and sick, too afraid to tell my family.
But finally, I was home.
A week later, Mom shocked me with something–Magnus’s mom wanted to set

me up with her son.
They must be crazy! Although Magnus was only a year older than me, he’d always seen me as only his little sister. There’s no way he could actually like me!
I could imagine the idea only making things awkward between us.
I thought of that until I learned from Mom that Magnus was actually the one who originally suggested the idea.
How could he…
But a few years later, Magnus and I did end up being a couple.
He was already my husband when he finally spilled the truth: he had liked me all those years.
Epilogue
“You liked me since day one? How come you didn’t tell me? You could’ve been my husband back then instead of that jerk!” I wrapped my arms around Magnus’s neck,

pouting.
But honestly, knowing we ended up together nonetheless made me feel like the happiest woman in the world. At least I didn’t get stuck with my ex forever.
Magnus pulled me closer, his eyes shining like they were teary. “I wanted you to wait. I wanted to give you a better life before confessing.”
“But I didn’t expect you’d marry someone else.” As soon as he said it, I saw his start to glisten.

My heart ached for him, and I hugged him tightly, pressing my lips to his softly.
Truthfully, I had liked him since we were kids, but he always felt out of reach, and I didn’t want to risk it.
Still, he was always there for me when I was in trouble.
He always made me feel safe.

Eventually, I just stopped reaching out altogether.
That’s when I met Simon, who was the total opposite of Magnus.
Simon was sunny and sweet, and I gradually fell for him as we became friends.
But he was stuck on someone else—our senior. Sylvia.
Sylvia was drop–dead gorgeous and an incredible dancer, the queen of campus.
Simon was head over heels, chasing her for so long before they finally got together.
But right after graduation, she left to marry someone out of business.
I had no idea if she even really had feelings for Simon; she ditched him for a guy she barely knew.

Yet when Simon decided to let her go, she came crawling back.
And like a loyal puppy, he followed her around and did everything she asked him.
His ego fooled him into believing his feelings for her were no more than pity. But everyone could tell his feelings for her high school sweetheart never changed.
I was naive too, believing him time and again until he had a baby with her and I
had to abort mine.
But lucky me, I found my way back to Magnus.
